Guest guest
You need to stop thyroid supplementation for ALL thyroid funciton tests for as long as it is possible for you to do so. The 24 urine test tells you what amount of Free T4 and Free T3 you have in your actual tissues (which is what we really need to know) and not what is floating around in your blood. I would definitely recommend this test. Any doctor who refuses to take a 24 hour urine Thyroid function test should be removed from the GMC register. Luv - Sheila Hi,I am asking this question on behalf of one of our members who isunable to log onto the site at the moment.Has anyone had this test done? If so, were they happy that theresults gave a better indication of their state of health than theusual blood tests? Do you need to stop taking your medication (inthis case Armour ) before the test, and if so, for how long?Any information will be most helpful.Luv,Anne x No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Hi Anne, I did this test as I heard the it is more reliable than a one-off blood sample. Basically you collect your pee for a 24 hour period and give a small sample to the lab. It is claimed that this smoothes out any high or low readings. I would contend the result is more reliable than a blood test. I would definitely recommend this test. Having said that, the more tests I do the less confidence I have in them. I hope this helps. Hi Sheila, I will pass on the info to Debra. I don't know of any NHS doctor who will carry out this test do you? I can only find a couple of private labs and their fees are about £100. If anybody knows of anywhere else that this test can be done, please let me know. Hi , Just one other question, which lab did you use for the test? I am assuming that you were unable to have the test done on the NHS! Guest guest
Hi Anne, I had mine done at IWDL. It cost £100. All you have to do is order a kit over the phone. They send it out to you and you return it to them directly. They will then email you the results after about 5 days. I think it is best to do the test early in the week to avoid your sample being left over the weekend. Obviously the sooner the lab analyses the sample the better. Because I live in ireland I had to courier it to them. I am not sure how IWDL compare to other labs. lol paul
