Guest guest
The program is to repeated on Monday 21st January on Channel 4 at 2.55am in the morning (ie Sunday night/Monday morning). Then it will be repeated yet again on Wednesday at 9pm on More4. The comments by those stupid men (eek, weren't they doctors?)made me fume too. It brought back memories of me being told exactly the same thing in a tone of voice best suited to addressing a dim-witted child. I was being investigated (interrogated more like) for why I had put on 1 stone in a month. 2 weeks of that month had been spent suffering a particularly unpleasant stomach bug and I had been incapable of eating and drank only water with a bit of orange juice. Even so, just like the bellydancer on the TV program, I was told it was impossible to gain weight in the manner I had and that I should eat less and exercise more. Of course I was not believed when I explained what I did eat and the amount of exercise I was doing. " Mrs Brown, are you trying to say you can defy the laws of physics!? " was one remark aimed at me - fortunately I found the idea hysterically funny. Heh, maybe I could make a new career as a superhero, defying the laws of physics and all that! And that doctor was wrong about people on thyroid medication becoming fat and staying fat because their fatness is to do with something other than their glands. My mother always took great pride in her tall willowy figure and ate healthily and kept active to maintain it. When she became hypothyroid her appearance changed utterly and she became quite rotund and puffy. When she was eventually diagnosed and eventually on the correct dose of thyroxine, things did improve for her. She tells me it was still hard work to get her weight down but at least she was ABLE to get results from then on. She had tried just as hard before she was diagnosed but the weight not only did not shift, it kept piling on. She can tell when her medication levels need reassessing as she suddenly slows down and fills out. Guest guest
I didn't see the programme but did he say that if you were sufficiently medicated it would not be a problem. Perhaps there would be no problem if we were all sufficiently medicated with the right medication to suit us as individuals - not a one size fits all approach. It is not only easier for the doctors to treat us all the same, but more cost effective on their part, as otherwise they would have to spend more time on each patient. Much easier to look at a blood test and prescribe or not on the result. Also much easier to have only one kind of medication to prescribe - takes the decision out of which one suits better. They can then get down to the more complicated matters like the common cold Lilian Sheila, the playback side of things on C4 is down right now so I cannot get in to watch again. Guest guest
No Lilian, what he said was - these people who blame their obesity on their thyroid, once they are medicated still find that they don't lose the weight, it is absolutely nothing to do with the thyroid that they are fat - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Guest guest
This idiot was talking out of his rear and there was one poor woman who has been hypot for a long time and threatening to have a banding to help her lose weight - YES, YES YES every one complain please. They were telling lies and that is so very wrong, how many out there who are now going to have people on their backs telling them that this dr said CATEGORICALLY there was no connection with hypot and obesity!!! Luv nne is it worth us all complaining - I think they might respond or have to answer if there a significant number of complaints, and they might then have to do an apology or at least an explanation! Where do we write? Gill

Where do we > write? I seriously doubt it would be worthwhile. My one experience of complaining about a TV program merely led to the TV company vigorously reiterating the very thing I had complained about, hence giving it more publicity.
