Ken, I'm glad it worked out ok.

Wbhat size band do you have? 7 cc is a huge first fil attempt for

any of the bands, and I'm not surprised it caused trouble. Even with

the largest 14 cc AP band, 5 cc or so is about the average first

fill. As you found out, overfills are not fun.

You had some extra trauma with the vomiting and overfill, so be sure

to have fluids only for 24 hrs (full fluids are fine, clears not

needed), and then 24 hrs of soft foods . then you can cautiously try

regular foods again.

You're on your way! But it is essential to go slowly with fills and

creep up to a good level. You can try a tad more in a month if needd,

but if you are losing you do not need more fill.

Ken! They gave you 7cc for a FIRST FILL???? What goobers! I have a VG and

they gave me 6cc for my first fill and I was slammed shut immediately. My

husband was given 4cc for his first and that was perfect. They backed out the

extra 2cc in my band and it was perfect. When I questioned the 6cc I received

versus the 4cc my husband received and I was told that they had just returned

from a band conference where they standard was changed to 6cc hence the

increase. Conference or not, I'm proof that everyone is very different when it

comes to fill levels. I do know some people who have gotten 6cc as a first fill

and did fine, but I still think it's too aggressive too soon. JMHO.

What size band do you have ? DH and I both have Vanguard's (VG). If you

have a VG or Realize, you definitely don't have restriction yet, but to get

decent restriction it takes 3-4 fills anyway. Be patient, it's nothing to rush

into. I know many bandsters who, along with their docs, were very aggressive

with fills (both in volume and frequency) and they ended up having troubles. We

got obese slowly, we'll lose slowly. Good luck next week; I can understand your

frustration!

I don't know the size. It is the AP band. I know

I will get to restriction eventually, but it is

hard. I took 27# off with the liquid diet and

right after getting the band. I don't lose well

normally. I've gained 5# over the last 2

months. I am doing the best I can. Will power

can only take you so far. If I could've done this

on will power, I wouldn't have had the

surgery. How long have you been banded? Are you losing well?

got pregnant so have not been able to diet or get fills. Baby is coming in 2

gained 11 pounds :)

, the new Inamed AP bands hold either 10 cc or 14 cc. The

smaller band needs at least 3-4 cc to even fill the tubing, but some

surgeons put in some at surgery.

the bottom line is that all bands needs several fills to creep up

slowly on restriction. The average is 3-5 over 4-6 months or so, but

some need a few more small tweaks to get to the first " good " level " .

then, we will need more fill periodically to keep the band snug and

functional.

the first fill or 2 is never even meant to be enough. the stomach is

extremely sensitive, and hates to be messed with, so we need small

gradual fills to sneak up on it so it barely notices.

This is critical to avoid trauma frtom overfills.

The surgeons should be explaining all this to us so we know what to

expect.

We can safely get more fill every 4 weeks until we get to a good

level.

This is never wasted time, though. there is a lot for us to learn and

put into place ourselves, before we get to a good fill.

we need to be learning much more about good nutrition, choosing lower

cal foods, reading all labels, designing food plans to meet the

protein, friber, calcium, good carb, and omega 3 oil needs, getting

into a good exercsie routine, starting to work well with a good

therapist on the emotional eating and food issues we ALL have, and

more. THEN, when we get to a good fill level with these things in

place, we will start to see serious weight loss.

We can't neglect any of these areas, and think the band or fills are

the entire solution. This is not stressed nearly enough, and is the

reason a good number of people don't do very well longterm.

Banding is a process, and every step depends on the steps before

being in good shape.

Patience, practice, and perseverance are the keys to success.

Thanks , Yes I got 7cc but they backed it off to 5 cc and

seems to be ok, I actually wish it was more restrictive but I realize

things have to go slow. In less then 2 months I am down just under

50 lbs.....I did well on the fasting. Thanks thought for your

comments and everyone who has done this only wants it to

work.........by god lets make sure it does!!! HARUMPH!!!!

Ken, If you're losing, it doesn't matter at this point how much you

are eating! If you're losing, you're clearly eating enough less to

los! :-)

We are never trying to eat as little as possible. We need to meet the

nutrition and calorie goals to lose safely and in a way that will not

return.

If you're losing , you also do not need a fill. we want as little

fill as we can have to still get some help from the band. We NEVER

want as much fill as we can possibly tolerate - the more fill, the

more risk of problems, including the very serious ones.

Please ask if any of this does not make sense, or is different than

you thought. Very important to understand all this, for the sake of

band safety.

Ken, you're surely no idiot - after all, you chose to get banded

didn't you? :-)

Trust me, we ALL had a million old diet-related ideas we had to

forget when we got banded. . there are many new things we have to

learn with banding - and the #1 thing is that we are never trying to

eat as little as possible.

that didn't work anyway, in the past - we might have lost a bit, but

only regained again in the end - which is why we are all here,

needing banding! and sharing what we have learned...

Now, we need to learn the band's needs - and these will help us keep

the weight off this time.
