Guest guest
Hi Gail, It is good to hear that your supplemental thyroid has been reduced. As a former " sick care " professional I am guessing that your MD may have also told his maternity patients NOT to breastfeed? I was lucky, my mom fed me anyway, even though she was told not to. My other siblings did not fare so well! The human body has a remarkable ability to correct itself. I believe that your thyroid will work fine on it's own, if treated correctly. Some say there is not difference between the supplements but I think that most on this list would not agree. I am learning as well. From what I was told by the doctor the only reason for the synthroid was so my thyroid wouldn't have to work too hard thus generate another tumor. Why Synthroid? Probably because that's what was available at the time. Why am I still on it? I posed that question to my internist and she replied that so far it's worked, why change it. The have lowered the dosage though and I'm on 150 MCG. I'm due for another physical in July and always have blood work-ups. This time I'll ask to see the numbers. Not sure if I'll understand them though..... In my mid 20's (in the late 1970's) the inner workings of my body wasn't too important to me... wish now I had asked more pertinent questions. Good luck, if you figure it out PLEASE clue me in ;-) Is there a " Thyroid & Iodine for Dummies " book out there for lay-people like me? Gail The Ga. If you are taking Synthroid, you need to monitor your thyroid if you are supplementing with Iodine
