Guest guest
Hello all! I'm wondering what other folks do to help *during a gallbladder attack* to help with the pain? I've read that some take epsom salts (1tsp - 1tbs) in water or juice. A few have said olive oil? What have you tried, and what works for you? Guest guest
Hi Dana, I haven't had a horrible attack in years, but when I used to have them, I'd use a heating pad on my upper abdomen and go to bed, laying on my side, curled up into as tight a ball as possible. I took lecithin capsules and ox bile enzymes. I don't think the ox bile enzymes are available any longer. The plant-based enzymes (papain, papaya, etc.) never helped me at all. If I could stand to, I'd eat something spicy without much fat. That seemed to help. Usually I was too nauseated to eat anything. I hope you find some relief. Guest guest
Hi Dana, I've experienced several severe attacks, one where I was passing out and sweating uncontrollably, that's when I went and had the sonogram and was confirmed with stones. What works for me is a hot heating pad as hot as I can stand it, with castor oil packs, I know I was skeptical at first, I didn't believe it would help that much but it made a big difference for me. As soon as you feel the first twinge go turn the heating pad on and lie down and then do deep breathing. I've heard taking lecithin will also help, it helps to thin the bile. Last year when we were going on vacation and as I was packing I felt the twinges of the pain starting. I took some of the epsom salt with me and once we arrived at our accomodations I took a small dose of epsom and ate lightly and it helped till I could get home to flush. Of course I got the suggestion from someone on this group, I was in a panic because I didn't want to postpone our plans, pre-paid and all plus hubby took off a week from work, etc. etc, anyway it was a band aid but it helped me get through my vacation. Guest guest
My attacks were like back labor except instead of building, it would be instantaneous, severe and it would travel and it was all I could do to just breathe through it. There were times it was worse than back labor. Now I can at least feel when I've not eaten optimally because I feel a swelling under my right rib cage now. It hurts a little, but I can at least function through it.
