Guest guest
By affecting the levels, I assume you mean increasing them. If so, that might explain what I have been experiencing. I have been taking Iodoral (50 mg) for about 10 days and have been doing great. I take progesterone on a cyclical basis for 15 days per month, which I started last night for the first time since starting Iodoral supplementation. Today, the lymph node in my armpits ache (not unusual during my menstrual cycle) and I am suddenly more tired. This is the first bad day I've had since starting the Iodoral. Very interesting... I presume that even bigger effects might be noted with 100 mg. > > What I am wondering is whether anyone on this group has ever tested their progesterone levels pre and post Iodine. Guest guest
Zoe, my progesterone level in August 2006 was 1.91 ng/ml (range is 0.2-0.5 ng/ml for postmenopausal), so it was high. I began Iodoral (one tablet) at the end of September and gradually increased to 50 mg. In January 2008, my progesterone level was tested at 0.268 ng/ml (normal), BUT my doctor had also lowered my prescription from 30 mg/ml to 25 mg/ml. The decrease could be attributed to both the iodine and the lower script; however, my iodine loading test came back a few percentage points lower than what it had been a year before, so I'm now doing the extra B2 & B3 to fix the NIS (I've always done high Vit. C, so I'm not adding any more of it). I'll be doing a new loading test next month. Don't know if this adds to your understanding or muddies the water even more! Question: if my loading test shows that my saturation level has increased to what it should be, can I then go back to my normal levels of the B vitamins? Guest guest
Thank you, Virginia, for your data on progesterone and iodine. Please make sure I understood your data correctly. Aug 2006 1.91 ng/ml (.2 - .5) Jan 2008 0.268 ng/ml [began Iodoral end of Sept 2006, and gradually increased to 50 mg. Also, lowered prescription for progesterone from 30 to 25 mg/ml.] Your data clearly show a DROP in measured progesterone over the time period mentioned. Thanks so much for your data. As others let us know their data points, we will gradually get a deeper understanding of this important issue. Guest guest
Hi, I'm trying to figure out the iodine / progesterone relationship. I've read that iodine increases progesterone and that the ideal dose of iodine for an individual is that which puts their progesterone at an optimal level. I've also read an experience that after several months of high dose iodoral (100mg) the hormone storm righted itself. So I'm curios about peoples' experiences & opinions about which it is -- if iodine raises progetserone too high, is it a healing crisis that rights itself or is it s sign that you need to take less iodine? Guest guest
I am taking 100mg Iodoral and 250mg progesterone cream per day. I haven't been able to lower the progesterone yet but may try again and let you know how it goes. Gracia Hi, I'm trying to figure out the iodine / progesterone relationship. Guest guest
Lia, I have also heard that iodine increases progesterone. However, I have not yet seen much data. This seems to be a very important issue that we need to understand. I wonder if any of the iodine docs have collected data that might be relevant. Guest guest
Greetings! I thought the concept of Iodine and progesterone to be very interesting so I did some googling and found a blog that is authored by an herbalist http://katjamama.livejournal.com/179474.html#cutid1 She offers some very interesting herbal advice for thyroid health!
