Guest guest
Hi , I was in a similar position. I had a really good few weeks were i felt " normal " again. Then the symptoms started to come back. The doc has increased my dose of thyroxine and will see what happens next. But i think i am one of those people who does not convert to T3 very well. Maybe the case with you too? regards Alison > > Now?I am confused. After a couple of months on Levothroxine and feeling really well, I mean new woman well I went back as my arms were twinging. In that period of feeling really well I was able to reduce my insulin, my blood sugars were great and I was awake and the brain working great. I went back about 3 weeks ago as the pains seemed worse in my arms.He did loads of blood tests including ferritin, B12, T4, TSH and blood pressure, and cholestoral. Everything was fine apart from the cholestoral which was 5.5. In fact the HB1C for the blood sugar was the best it's been for about 5 years, only half a point above normal! So if everything is normal why are my arms really hurting and why am i suddently really tired again?? My gp is wondering if it's the diabetes but it was brilliantly controlled when I felt well and now I don't it's shot back up again. I'm so confused. He's playing around with one of my meds but thinks it's unlikely to be that. I'm wondering if it might be fybromialgia, I hope not! > > > > > ______________________________________________________________________ __ > AOL's new homepage has launched. Guest guest
Hi Did you get the results of your thyroid function tests. Even though all your other tests are fine, it could very well be that you are either (and this is very likely) not on enough levothyroxine to get rid of all your symptoms or you are not converting the inactive T4 into the actiive T3. If you are not getting enough T3 into all your cells, you can get some quite severe pains in your muscles and joints in almost any part of your body. In my own case, it was in my lower back, just shifted a little over to one side, my shoulder and under both my heels. Once I started taking Armour, all the pains went. If your local laboratory refuses to test your Free T3, you should get this done through NPTech Services. However, having said this, the majority of people taking levothyroxione have to wait several months for the thyroxine to get working properly and you are still very early into treatment. What dose are you taking now. luv - Sheila Now I am confused. After a couple of months on Levothroxine and feeling really well, I mean new woman well I went back as my arms were twinging. I'm wondering if it might be fybromialgia, I hope not! > ------------------------------------------------------- Hi , I had a similar problem with my arms, where in my case it turned out to be vitamin B12 deficiency. Therefore, it might be an idea to ask your GP to check your blood for intrinsic factor antibody levels. This test is used to identify whether you have pernicious anaemia, as most people who lack intrinsic factor have these antibodies in their blood. This is a separate individual test: http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=42 & sectionId=7 The immune system normally makes antibodies to attack bacteria and viruses. Pernicious anaemia is caused by an autoimmune disease, which causes the immune system to make antibodies against other parts of your body. In pernicious anaemia, antibodies are formed that attack the stomach lining and damage the cells that produce intrinsic factor. This stops intrinsic factor from attaching to B12, and so the vitamin cannot be absorbed into your body. http://www.cks.library.nhs.uk/patient_information_leaflet/b12_deficiency My vitamin B12 tests kept coming back normal until I was tested for the above lack of the intrinsic factor, where that test came back positive, so I now have vitamin B12 injections once every 12 weeks. Warm Wishes Marie ________________________________________________________________________ > AOL's new homepage has launched. Guest guest
Hi Sheila He said the TSH was I think 0.24? and the T4 23, does that sound ok? He didn't test for T3 and said something like it's only important if there was toxic something or other. I started the treatment on 13th but I can't understand why I felt really well and now don't. I did mention Armour as the pharmacist at the practice mentioned that one of the other doctors had written a letter asking them to get some for a patient. My doctor said he wouldn't want to try that but have been happy to consider adding some T3 but that as I am 'complicated patient' ie diabetic with high blood pressure too he wouldn't want to play around. Guest guest
Hi Alison Has s/he tested you agiain or just relying on your symptoms? I went up to 125mcgs and he thinks that is the correct dose. I was wondering about T3 I think I might ask for a referral to an endo on the list here. Guest guest
Your doctor sounds as if he doesn't want to do anything, probably because he doesn't know sufficient about 'anything' Would it be possible to see the other doctor in the practice who does appear to know a little more - and he prescribes Armour? Guest guest
Hi I was tested again. And she said that it was " normal " but let me try an increase anyway. I don't think it will work and am on the verge of trying Armour. I have started increasing in weight again and things are getting worse. I havn't got time to waste trying another 25mcgs for 2 months!. Ali X > > > > Now?I am confused.
