Guest guest
Hi Janet, I've just got the one from NPTech and it says 8am, noon, 4pm and midnight. This is also past my bedtime. The IWDL instructions seem more flexible, maybe that is a good thing. Debra

Thanks for > any guidance, Janet > Hi Janet I've just done that test. From memory I think it advises you get up between 6-8am. The first sample is taken one hour after you get up, therefore between 7-9 am, the second sample between 11am-1pm. Then between 5-7pm and lastly between 10pm and midnight. I think you shpould definitely aim to take the samples at the times suggested. It's important to do that because you're measuring levels of cortisol and they act in a certain rhythm at certain times of the day and it's that rhythm you're trying to investigate. If I were you I would aim to get up no later than 8am and do your last sample no earlier than 10pm. Hope this clarifies things a bit. Shout again if not! Good luck with the test. x
Guest guest
HI Janet The point of getting a 24 hour salivary profile to check for adrenal function is that both cortisol and DHEA vary at specific times during the day. This is why it is best to 'create' a day when you can do the tests at the specific times. There is a graph that shows your cortisol and DHEA output at 8.00a.m. - 12 noon - 4.00p.m. and again at midnight. You don't have to stay up until midnight, but it is best to get a test done as near to that time as is possible. 11.00p.m. would be fine. They cannot properly check if you are putting out the expected amount at those times if you don't provide the right test for those times. The morning one is very important, because your cortisol should be at it's very highest level and your DHEA should be at the lowest level - and similarly at night, your cortisol should be very low, and your DHEA should be at its highest. Luv - Sheila hiI've just got the 24-hour saliva test for adrenal function, from IWDL.I was a bit confused on reading their instructions for when to test:they say, (1) an hour after you get up, followed by (2)4-5 hourslater, (3)another 4-5 hours later and finally (4) before you go to bed. Often I don't get up til 9am, and go to bed by 9pm. Which would meanI'd be doing my first test at 10am, and last one at 9pm. But I'verepeatedly seen people refer to tests starting at 8am and ending atmidnight... should I be trying to get that kind of range? Guest guest
Hi Debra If you are going to spend so much money on getting a 24 hour salivary adrenal profile, surely it will be worth staying up past your normal bed-time for one night to make sure you get what you are paying for. I explained the reasons why these times are specific in the message I just posted. It is very important to know where your cortisol and DHEA are first thing in the morning, and as near to midnight as possible luv - Sheila Hi Janet,I've just got the one from NPTech and it says 8am, noon, 4pm andmidnight. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I was just responding to Janet's post where she had said a similar thing, and I thought the details of the NPTech times may have been useful to her. Of course I will stay up late to do the test and this is not a problem. I obviously am coming across different to how I intend. Guest guest
Hi Debra I realise that you were responding to Janet's message and you come across fine - I just need our members to realise the importance of following the tests they pay for as far as they can to the letter. There is a reason for the adrenal tests to be done at those specific times. It is always difficult to understand when we can't see each others body language *grin*.
