Question about HCL

I was wondering if anyone has knowledge about hydrochloric acid in the stomach

and if there are certain foods that increase this substance. A deficiency in

hydrochloric acid was listed as one of the reasons contributing to gallstones

and I think that may be my problem (several years on the raw vegan diet may have

exacerbated this problem -- I know my attacks increased dramatically during this

time although it could be a coincidence).

For that matter, has anyone expelled all of their gallstones only to have this

problem pretty much correct itself.

Thanks!

Dave are you saying that the above items will increase the HCL in your

stomach? IF so that will explain why it settles my stomach (not the manhattan,

just the bitters in water) so readily.

I have never responded well to HCL tablets so it this is a list of

alternatives that would be terrific.

Thanks, (atlanta)

so I've not seen Angostura bitters. I'll have to check out stores up here.

Its in the grocery store in the baking section or the drinks section. ITs a

common ingredient in the stores and only one brand. There is another bitters

-- its Jamacian I think and a different recipe. Angustora is an old European

degestif. They drink a little in water after meals.

Happy hunting.

Yeah, and the Manhattan doesn't sound too bad either.

I've lived a sheltered life in recent years (the joys of Utah, although I am

actually from country, Marietta, Georgia) so I've not seen Angostura

bitters. I'll have to check out stores up here.

All bitter herbs stimulate digestive processes including HCL and bile. This is

why most of the detoxifying liver/gallbladder herbs are bitter and cold. The

" chinese bitters " that chang sells are a good example. Any bitters will

work, Swedish, Jamaican, Chinese, etc. Angostura bitters were named for the

angostura bark from the Caribean (Jamaica) that were originally in them. There

is no longer any angostura due to toxicity of that particular herb, the main

bitter being gentian (most bitter herb on the planet).
