I'm chipping in not because I "understand it" but because Duke's explanation illuminated something for me.

I recall when I took brine hot first thing in the morning, i.e. hot salty water rather like a savoury cup of tea. Rather nice, actually.

It kind of worked like Epsom salts - straight through to the loo. Someone told me that using the hot water meant I hadn't given it enough time and it had passed through; I didn't pursue it but now I get it.

If I had used cold water, it would have stayed in the stomach until it was warm, and in the meantime, the salt would be absorbed by the stomach and used in the body.

By drinking it hot, it passed straight through the stomach and on to the intestines, pulled water out of the intestines to "dilute" the brine, which cleaned out the bowel like Epsom salts. Epsom salts works by drawing water out of the intestines into the bowel contents, apparently.

That's how I am seeing it, anyway.

Thanks for your reply. I'm new here and don't exactly understand what you are saying. If you have time to explain it further I would appreciate it very much. Thanks. Deb

This gives the body time to absorb the salt and the process diminishes the necessary effect.> Salt loading question> > I wanted to know if it is necesary to mix the 1/4-1/2 tsp of salt in warm water. Is the warm temperature necessary to make it work. I don't mind salt in water, but the warm part is a bit rough getting down. However, if it needs to be warm I will persevere. Deb >

I thought salt loading was to balance sodium/ potassium/aldosterone levels, not as an cathartic....... help??

An accidental discovery.

The salt on that occasion was being used to clear any unwelcome life forms that might have invaded the body.

It wasn't being used for the above purposes, which are still new to me!

It is to clear bromide and it will cause you to urinate. It does support

adrenal function as well.

Yeah! My ND told me to think about my cells like raisins. When you poor water over them they start to plump up. Then when plump the fluid spills over.

Re: Salt loading question

I don't think there is anything wrong with my bladder. I don't drink enough water in general. I did the 1/2 tsp, though, and drank 16oz water and about 30 minutes later, started going what I would call "copiously". That just never happened before. And I peed for a couple of days, drinking tons of water because I was thirsty. All good.
