Guest guest
Hi Cassie, good to here you've got a result and had a positive consultation! I take it you will be seeing this same GP next time? Was the one you normally see not very supportive of you? How long had you been taking thyroxine when you had the tests you've just told us about and what dosage were you on? Guest guest
HI Cassie, TSH is far too high 90%of healthy folk have a TSH of around 1.0. As the FT4 is near the bottom of the range a trial of thyroid meds should be tried 'to see if it helps'. Subject: Hello again you lovely people and thanks so much for your messages of support. I went back to the docs this morning and saw another doctor, she immediately upped my thyroxine by 50mg even though my tests from wednesday aren't back. She listened to everything I said and referred me to and endocrinoligist brilliant! I only have the results of my previous test so here they are: TSH 4.89 (0.3-5.6) FT4 9.7 (7.5-21.1) So can anyone enlighten me on what that means? ------------------------------------ Messages are not a substitute for professional medical advice. Guest guest
Hi Ruth, I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and have been on 75m for most of that but recently my thyroid became enlarged. I ended up going to casuaty earlier this week because the doctor i normally see was VERY unhelpful. > > Hi Cassie, good to here you've got a result and had a positive > consultation! Guest guest
Hi Cassie The results mean you are hypothyroid and thank goodness, the doctor you saw recognises this and upped your thyroxine. Your FT4 should be in the upper third of the reference interval. It will be interesting to see what your recent test results show. It is a pity they did not think to do your Free T3 to see whether you are converting this inactive hormone (T4) to the active hormone T3. it is the T3 that makes everything in your body function. Let us know these results as soon as they come in, and the reference range for each one. Luv - Sheila and thanks so much for your messages of support. I went back to the docs this morning and saw another doctor, she immediately upped my thyroxine by 50mg even though my tests from wednesday aren't back.
