Well, I just had a chance to read this thread and it sure made a strong case

for not supplementing with a lot of Iodoral, no? All these conflicting

studies are giving me a headache.

Agreed. They even had a doctor on there and several studies

showing higher incidences of hypothyroidism in coastal Japan.

Considering this is the very condition for which I was hoping

iodine would help, I too am ensure how to proceed. I guess

it is for this reason that I posted about the alternatives

to Iodoral. That is, these other products contain lower

concentrations, so I don't need to megadose with 5 mg, but

can easily adjust to get only, say, 500 mcg, or 1 mg, etc..

I thought that doctor had many inconsistencies and he doesn't know

what he's talkin' about. I looked through the other threads and he

gives the same nonsense advice. I'm a bit iffy about him.

To give an example he says that miso is antithyroid, which is

actually the opposite!

To treat thyroid diseases he suggests pulling it out and

suplementing with synthroid for the rest of your life!

OK, I missed the inconsistencies, but I guess I was impressed

with the studies on coastal Japanese showing increased hypo-

thyroidism with high levels on iodine consumption.

Nevertheless, considering my low-sodium diet (though a good

3 servings of dairy daily), I think iodine deficiency *could*

be an issue for me. I am starting with around 500 mcg - 1 g

via sea veggies and the supplements in my other post. I am

also taking about 250 mg L-tyrosine, a precusor to the thyroid

hormones.
