Guest guest
, I suggest reading some of the info in the file section. The fill info would be a great start. Generally after a fill you are supposed to do liquid for 24 hours then soft foods for 24 hours then proceed with normal intake as allowed. You must go slow for many reasons when reintroducing foods.Lots of good info in the files. As for the stuck or slimming? My experience is our bodies will create extra fluids/slim whem something is stuck in order to push it through the body. The stuck item can only go two ways ..up or down..When something is in the way the bodies natural reaction is to try to get rid of the problem so it lubes the area in an effort to remove the item/problem.. So my opinion is that you are slimming because you are stuck..Just because son=mething seems to go down fine as in the chips it wasn't the best choice immediately following a fill. Like stated in the files liquids following a fill for at least 24 hours..Hope you feel better and this answers your question.. Doesn't seem like some Dr.s give us useful info for band follow up care. Guest guest
I hope everyone had a nice holiday with a few treats! Great info from Sharon already! i love that there are so many wise people here, all sharing good info. Hiccups are diaphragm spasms - so any time we iirritate the diaphragm with an over-full or unhappy pouch for ANY reason , we can have hiccups. not dangerous, but uncomfortable. As Sharon said, it's especially impt to rest the stoma and allow it to heal from the manipulation of fills. Your eating solids so soon surely cused some extra irritation. This is what i'd suggest now: 1. 24 hrs of fluids - full liquids like bleneded soups are fine. anytghing pureed smooth with no lumps, that would get thru a straw. Warm and hot things work better than cold, most of the time. 2. be sure to get the 80-100 oz of daily fluids Bandsters need 3. then a day of soft foods 4. then cautiously back to regular foods, choosing only good band foods. Read the Band Guide in the files here for food choice info and eating technique info before you start regular foods again. since good food choices and excellent eating techniques are critical to avoid Band trouble (including the trouble that can require band removal) it really makes me unhappy when docs do not give written material on these things. I hope we can help you here, if your doc doesn't. I'm afraid Nacho chips and the fake cheese sauce and poor meat are all poor band foods - high fat, high calories, poor quality. Chinese foods is also generally very poor quality, with lots of fat, calories, fried things, gristle and poor quality. We are worth only the best food! and only high-quality food will promote our weight loss. It'a all those years of junky food that made us fat, so that must change now, if we want to be UN-fat. Lots of changes are needed to do well with the Band - it is not simply eating less of the same poor food. But no one changes overnight - start now to learn much more about nutrition and the good band foods we need. Sandy r Sandy R' > > > What is the difference? Guest guest
Hi, - I'm afraid very few nutritionists know much about band needs - eating techniques, food choices, amounts, or the other essential things. They are all bypass-treined, but there is a huge difference between band and bypass needs. We are pretty much on our own. That's why i wrote the patient ed materials for my own doc and his patients. I retained the copyright to be able to share with anyone who needs help - so they are all posted here in the files, links, and database. They are all approved by Dr Kuri, and many other docs use them too, in one form or another. They may not be exactly what YOUR doc wishes, but if he does not give out reams of written info, i'd suggest going by what WE use, as it surely has worked very well for most people. The surgery is only the very first step of many, and it is the months and years of aftercare, learning, and changing habits that determines our sucess. i wish more docs understood that. But hopefully teaching/support groups like this will help. glad you're here with us ! Sandy r > > > > > > > > > What is the difference? Guest guest
Almost everyone has trouble with bread if they have a good fill. maybe you don't quite yet. There are a number of " avoid " or " caution' foods we should be aware of. it's only the bypass people that can eat most foods - even sweets eventually. but even if we CAN eat bread, white pasta, white rice, and other junk food, we really need to avoid them and choose only the most nutritious foods, since we have so little pouch room. It's difficult to meet the protein, fiber, calcium, good carb, etc needs if we waste space on junk like breads. We're not only afetr weight loss, but GOOD weight loss that will not come back this time. And, to me, the true goal of banding is regaining our health.
