Guest guest
Sheila - oh please dont cut your head off, it will make a terrible mess of the carpets! No surprises here really! We really must use the patient experience avenues to get the messages out - we need to get involved with the Local Involvement Networks (LNKs) which will be in place by September in all areas. We need to post on the Patient Opinion and Iwantgreatcare websites about our experiences. And continue to try and get more and more publicity - even if its using The Sun!! The BTA and BTF are so closed minded and dont realise that they are working against the best interests of many patients. Parr for the course I think. I think the only way to be heard is through the patient voice sorts of routes - keep on keeping on! And if you cut your head off you wont be able to bang it against the wall! Guest guest
Sheila, I continue to be very puzzled by the attitude of the doctors. Patients are telling them that the 'treatment' doesn't help some of them, yet they continue to disbelieve the patients. Why? I don't understand why. You would think that SOMEONE would be interested in looking into this further. If thyroxine is considered a 'safe and effective treatment' why doesn't it make me and so many other people feel better? I DO NOT feel any better since using thyroxine. I'm sorry, but having a TSH level within the reference range is not enough for me. I need to feel better and I do not feel better after using thyroxine, despite being persistent and trying to give it a go for well over a year. I know it works wonderfully for some people, but I am not one of those people. If thyroxine worked for me and others, it would be great. If my hypo symptoms would go away on thyroxine I would be extremely happy, but my hypo symptoms have not gone away. P We note that you are advocating a trial of Armour therapy versus standard available thyroid hormone preparations. We feel, however, that there will be little interest in funding such a study when an established, safe and effective treatment is available for the treatment of hypothyroidism. Guest guest
I don't know an investigative journalist, but I know OF one or two. has already written two health-related books, " Dirty Medicine " (mainly about AIDS treatments) and " Skewed " (about M E). Another really good journalist who might take up a topic such as hypothyroidism is Taubes. He is American and wrote " Good Calories, Bad Calories " . This is a history of nutritional research and explains how the mainstream advice came to be in contradition to scientific findings. Miriam > > A five letter word is behind all this Pat - and that is ££££££££...M O N E Y...££££££££ > > Does anybody know an Investigative Journalist who would consider taking this on for us - a best friend, a husband, a very dear relative etc - because we can't afford to pay for one. Seriously though, if only we could, if only there was somebody out there who knows how to go about this and would take this on. They are too afraid that should they offer us a grant to do a trial into Armour v Lothyroxine alone, that Armour would win - and they know it would. > > Luv - Sheila > > > > Sheila, > > I continue to be very puzzled by the attitude of the doctors. > Patients are telling them that the 'treatment' doesn't help some of > them, yet they continue to disbelieve the patients. Guest guest
''safe and effective treatment is available for the treatment of hypothyroidism. '' How DARE they say that with all the suffering that is going on, how dare they say that combo therapy is not backed by research after all you sent them? Yes it must be MONEY. Well, MONEY will not help them in time of trouble, and they will on this earth encounter problems. Your frustration is justified Shiela. They are not going to listen to reason. Makes my blood boil I cannot deny this. How did they get into this influencial position anyway? They are causing suffering accross the board. Shame on them, may God let them see the error of their ways. Restricting the help that could be given should not be an option on their part. Who can see over these organisations? Who can help? They seem to be a big WALL between us and possible health giving therapy. I pray to God for them to see sense and advocate for a range of treatment options for this condition, with monitoring by health professionals rather than digging their heels in in favour always of the pharma stance. Don't cut off your head Shiela, you will need it to bang against that wall, and most of us feel as though we are joining you. lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Sheila, have you thought of sending all the facts to the pharmaceutical companies who make thyroxine and ask them for their replies. Lilian
Guest guest
No - I haven't even considered this Lilian. In what way do you think this would help, and what specifically would you suggest we need them to respond to? Guest guest
Hmmm! I can't remember either. What a great team LOL! All I can think is that it probably has something to do with what Janice Hickey from BTF said in her response to me when I first sent them our rebuttal - or to what I wrote in response to her letter. I know I was VERY cross at that time, and still am, because neither the BTA or BTF have changed a single thing. Four references from them to back up their statements with all the massive science out there to prove them wrong and 274 references to back up our rebuttals. I think they no longer write to me because they know they are wrong, and can't back down. You can read the letter from M/s Hickey and our response here http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/btfTPAresponses.pdf . Perhaps this might trigger your mind into remembering what you have now forgotten . Seriously Lilian though, " trying to catch up on 7--- unread messages - WHEW - get a life girl! What's been around will come around again and again and again, I can promise you, so don't spend all of your Christmas holiday and the New Year reading 7000 messages *grin*.
