Guest guest
I have not been able to find substantiation for this claim. I have heard people say it but I don't agree with it. Vitamin C heals the NIS and does not have anything that should inhibit absorption. Guest guest
I thought Vit C was GOOD for Iodine b/c it counteracts the acne that can be caused... RIGHT or is that totally wrong???? Guest guest
From what I know it is good with Iodine. Guest guest
About a week ago gave me a link to Curezone with regard to Iodine therapy. I did read this very good reply to this exact question, Is it OK to take Iodine with Vit C. The scientific answer is Yes, that even though when mixed into solution with Iodine & changing the colour & taste of the water, that the Iodine is of the same efficacy to the body: http://www.curezone.com/faq/q.asp?a=13,281,2962 & q=630 I always mix Ascorbic Acid powder in the glass of water with my Lugol's drops - it tastes better, Pru -- In iodine , "virginia.speaks" <indiana127@...> wrote:>> I've been reading the iodine book by Jo Fahey, and she states that > iodine should not be taken with Vitamin C. Guest guest
vit c is a very strong antioxidant and will convert the free iodine in lugols back into iodide which makes the lugols less effective. Taking them an hour apart seems to be the consensus. I take my vit c with meals and lugols between meals. I personally did an experiment mixing vit c in a cup with lugols, and it did convert it as can be seen by the solution becoming clear. I tried many other foods like orange juice, etc, and none of them reacted with any color change. So I concluded that any 'natural' liquid can be taken with lugols whereas vit c is made in a laboratory. Iodoral, being a sealed pill, may or may not have that limitation. But I wouldn't take it with vit c. > > I have not been able to find substantiation for this claim. I have heard > people say it but I don't agree with it. Guest guest
Pru , you are misinterpreting the post at curezone. The response there was: " So, useless? No " So it's not USELESS when mixed with vit c, but the lugols is changed and rendered less effective unless changed back in the body by another 'oxidant'. I have tried to discuss this at curezone but the moderators, esp trapper, can't seem to grasp my simple experiment. Even pure lime juice did not change the color of the lugols so just mix your lugols with lime juice and stevia, but not vit c. > > > > I've been reading the iodine book by Jo Fahey, and she states > that > > iodine should not be taken with Vitamin C. Guest guest
Anybody got any ideas what happens if you take iodine with timed release mineral ascorbates (i.e. buffered c)? > > > > > > I've been reading the iodine book by Jo Fahey, and she states > > that > > > iodine should not be taken with Vitamin C. Guest guest
OK good - I take Iodoral but will take them seperate now. Thanks guys! Guest guest
From another Iodine group a FAQ, hope this helpsDr. Eliezer Ben-phwww.naturalsolutionsradio.com FAQ: Mixing Lugol's with Vitamin C; Iodine Reduced to IodideQuestion; I have noticed that if I mix Lugol's iodine with Vitamin C powder that the color of the iodine disappears and also the taste of the iodine is neutralized. Does that also mean that the efficacy of the iodine is useless?Let's go through the titration process with a specific example: the titration of vitamin C by iodine. The chemical name for vitamin C is ascorbic acid. When iodine and ascorbic acid are combined in solution, a chemical reaction takes place. In this chemical reaction, the ascorbic acid molecule loses electrons, which are transferred to the iodine molecule. Chemists call this type of reaction an oxidation/reduction reaction (or redox reaction for short). The ascorbic acid is oxidized to dehydroascorbic acid, and the iodine is reduced to iodide ions. Oxidation-reduction reactions always occur in pairs like this. The molecule that loses electrons is oxidized, and the molecule that accepts the electrons is reduced. We need ioDINE AND ioDIDE:"It was thought that the intestinal tract could easily convert iodine to iodide, but research has shown this is not true. Different tissues of the body respond to different forms of iodine. The thyroid gland primarily utilizes ioDIDE....the breasts, on the other hand, primarily utilize ioDINE....Because different tissues concentrate different forms of iodine, using a supplement that contains both iodine and iodide is preferable to using a supplement that contains only one form, As mentioned above, the breasts concentrate iodine. The prostate gland concentrates iodine. The thyroid gland and the skin primarily concentrate iodide. Other tissues, including the kidneys, spleen, liver, blood, salivary glands and intestines can concentrate either form. With different tissues responding to different forms of iodine, it would make common sense that a greater therapeutic benefit from iodine will be achieved by using a COMBINATION OF IODINE AND IODIDE. My clinical experience has proven, beyond a doubt, that a combination of IODINE/IODIDE (e.g., Lugol's or Iodoral) is much more effective than an iodide only supplement(e.g., SSKI and most other liquid iodide formulations)."So, useless? No.De <nurse_blondie22@...> wrote: OK good - I take Iodoral but will take them seperate now. Thanks guys! De > > > > I have not been able to find substantiation for this claim.
