Guest guest
Before having my band (April 18/08), I did a lot of research. I never came on anything about " unsnapped band " . Anyone with more info about repairs or the problem? I have a Cousin Band, now unsnapped (useless). It was discovered after a fill under fluoro last week. It probably happened after an onstruction during the summer. I will have surgery on Jan.9/09 to correct. Thanks for any info you can provide. Guest guest
Hi, Lucie - I'm afraid i have never heard of a " Cousin " Band. In the US, there are only 2 FDA-approved band manufacturers - the Inamed company making the " LapBand " , and the and company, making their " Realize " band. Ther are a number of other types of bands in other parts of the world that are not used here, so we would'nt know about them. But i do know of a few Inamed bands, over the last 6 yrs of my band experience, that have come " unsnapped " and needed a repair. I imagine the repair is about the same with any band - general anesthesia, and going in to re-buckle the band. Please tell us more about your band - or perhaps you're just remembering the name incorrectly? Guest guest
I went in for a repair on Friday, Jan. 9th and ended up with a brand new band. I didn't have a chance to talk to the surgeon afterwards, but from what I can remember in my " fuzzy " awakening period, there as a hole in my band. The port has been changed from next to my belly button to higher in the middle of the stomack. I was back to work on Monday (teaching). I don't have any shoulder pain like the first time. The anaesthesist asked me how was my recovery from the first surgery, and I told him I had nasty shoulder pains for about 3 months. The surgery took over 1 hr, because the surgeon had to deal with scar tissue as well. So I'm back to fluids, etc. which is a pain... but I can deal with this. I have a total new respect from my band. After reading some of the documents in the files, I have a better understanding of how to achieve my goal. I have only 5 lb left to lose... and I don't plan to be aggressive with my fill levels. No more vomiting, slimming, obstruction for me. And thank you Sandy for all your support, the valuable info in these files and the grat work you're doing here. Guest guest
Hi Lucie. What kind of band did you get this time? If you only have 5 pounds to go, you must have done really well. Congratulations. At 07:21 PM 1/14/2009, you wrote: >I went in for a repair on Friday, Jan. 9th and ended up with a brand >new band. Guest guest
You're very welcome! this is a great group, full of wise and experienced people happy to help. We're all in this weird journey together. If there was one of the very rare defective bands, your doc knows how to submit it to inamed for reimbursement. they also cover any travel, hotels, or expenses you incurred - all part of the Inamed warranty, assumning it was an Inamed band. sounds like you're back in business! A second surgery is alway more difficult, since there is a lot of scar tissue to cut thru and out. The same rules apply now - no abdominalm exercises, no lifting more than 10#, no stretching or reaching for 4-6 weeks. going back to work 3 das after a major surgery is quite soon - i hop you'll take good care of yourslf. Part of he band journey is to learn to care for our needs much better. Gald you didn't have shoulder pain this time - but I wish you had been here when you were first banded, because there are good treatments to prevent and treat it we would have told you about. Since you're so much thinner now, the doc probably didn't need to insert much CO2 into your belly at all, so the organs and diaphragm were not stretched, resulting in the shoulder pain. There is a new document in the files called " food and Fluids for the first month " that has suggestions for the fluid and soft stages. Hea well - you'll be at goal in no time! you're very wise to avoid a tight fill. Sandy r > > > > Before having my band (April 18/08), I did a lot of research. Guest guest
Exactly the same one, the Cousin, and my port didn't change place. It's still next to my belly button. What I thought was the port is the band. I can feel it very well. Thanks, Lucie > > > > > > Before having my band (April 18/08), I did a lot of research. Guest guest
Sandy, mine was the Cousin... I had a rough day at school on Monday and Tuesday. Went right to bed at 4 pm and woke up the next day at 7 am. But by Wed. I was back to my old self. My students were aware that I had surgery (not what kind) and were doing everything they could to help. I'll check that file too... I'm in the mushy stuff right now. Thanks, Lucie ========================== > > > > > > Before having my band (April 18/08), I did a lot of research. I > never > > > came on anything about " unsnapped band " .
