Guest guest
Just picked up on the extract from the artical by Professor Pat Kendall- then President of the British Thyroid Association p;osted by DAZ.http://www.endocrinology.org/sfe/endocrinologist/end06207.pdf"The thyroid, and particularly the treatment of hypothyroidism, hasbecome very topical of late, with much press coverage. There aresome very active proponents of a policy of treating people withrather vague symptoms (possibly suggestive of hypothyroidism) withthyroid replacement, without the need for biochemical confirmationof the diagnosis. Consequently, the BTA receives many requests forarticles, comments, press releases, talks and so on. Numerous Websites are devoted to this issue, some of which seem to be mostconvincing but are misleading. These need to be monitored, andaction taken if and when appropriate. Look around for them on theWeb, and you will see what your patients are reading! My comments …YES PLEASE DOCTORS, DO LOOK AROUND THE WEB. You will see the parlous state which surrounds the BTA protocol on the diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism - perhaps that way, you might all learn what an appalling mess you are making of this.
