Guest guest
Hi All, I have just been having a tea break at work and thought I would take a look at other thyroid websites. I have been diagnosed within the 'normal range by my doctor with a TSH of 1.9. I went to see Dr P and the tests I had done via him showed that my T3 was way under range (it was 600 - and the bottom of the range was 800 I think), suggesting I have a conversion problem. However, looking at the Thyroid Foundation website I found the following:- .........There are no convincing studies showing difficulty in converting T4 to T3 except in extremely rare or clinically obvious conditions. Failure to convert T4 to T3 at anything like a normal rate will lead to a compensatory increase in TSH, which will overcome any potential block. This happens, for instance, in people treated with drugs that interfere with T4 – T3 conversion; there is a transient disturbance of thyroid function, and then things are reset to a normal level....... I am going to see an endo next week and will take the Dr P test results to show him - I am concerned that he will dismiss them the same way as my doctor. I am feeling so tired and depressed at the moment - I actually started to cry this morning when talking to my partner over the phone. I am desperate for an 'official' confirmation and on-going help as I feel so 'on my own' I have also emailed the Daily Mail and when I get time I will phone and complain. lol to you all
Guest guest
Cheer up Fran - we keep telling you that 2008 is the start of all things good. I have, these past few weeks, been working on a document that will prove that there is a lot of research, evidence, studies that have taken place showing the opposite, and I am sending these two docs. to the BTA, other thyroid organisations, medical schools, the DoH, all Primary Care Trusts and all endocrinologists. It is OUR time to show them how wrong they have been. Everything is backed up with references that cannot be disputed. Gill is busy editing them at the moment and as soon as she has done this and got them back to me , I will post them on the website (and on the forum of course) as soon as possible Luv - Sheila However, looking at the Thyroid Foundation website I found the following:-........There are no convincing studies showing difficulty in converting T4 to T3 except in extremely rare or clinically obvious conditions. Guest guest
Hi frances, We agree that the thyroid foundation are a problem which Sheila is trying to rectify by giving then the correct info. However, looking at the Thyroid Foundation website I found the following:- Messages are not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult with a suitably qualified practitioner before changing medication.
