Guest guest
Here's one for the BTA:Another article by Jerome Burne in the Daily Mail "How powerful placebos could save the NHS millions - AND still cure illnesses"http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/health/healthmain.html?in_article_id=487778 & in_page_id=1774 So, the BTA reckon that thyroxin is just a placebo eh? Well, what does it matter if it makes us well.Luv
Guest guest
Hi, The BTA can’t have have it both ways thyroxin and the only treatment for hypo AND a placebo. So, the BTA reckon that thyroxin is just a placebo eh? Well, what does it matter if it makes us well. But it doesn’t answer why it doesn’t make some of us well at all and even causes some symptoms Luv
Guest guest
I too wondered where your message had disappeared as I approved it last night. The 'placebo' article by Burne was not in the article he write about hypothyroidiosm and Dr Skinner's Hearing at the GMC.... it was a completely different article on a different day. If you go through this message thread, you will find the link. Sheila >> IM ne w, have NO idea if Im doing this right. Guest guest
Personally, I would never recommend anybody decreasing their levothyroxine to take natural thyroid extract, and then gradually increasing the thyroid extract and lowering their levothyroxine still further. I have heard of so many people trying this and they appear to be the ones who have the most problems. Why would you want to do this when you have T4, T3, T2, and T1 in natural thyroid extract. Obviously, you are wanting to move over to desiccated thyroid extract because the levothyroxine is not giving you back your normal health, so why not just stop it and then start natural thyroid extract and nothing else. This works for most people. I stopped taking 125mcgs levothyroxine one day, the following day, I started on half a grain of Armour and stayed on that for 7 days before increasing by another half grain and staying on that for 4 weeks before increasing by another half grain. I followed this regime until I started to get the effects of hyperthyroidism, palpitations and feeling spaced out with me, and then I dropped back by half a grain to the dose I was on before. I never had any problems and never felt so well in my hypothyroid life. Luv - Sheila Does anyone else have a very strong placebo effect when they try a new medication. i had it when i started b12 and recently when i tried sea salt. I initially became so well it was wonderful, but this has lasted only 10 days on average. The sea salt has helped me, but it is not going to be the crucial thing which gets me well i now realise. It has though helped to lower my blood pressure by about 10 points. anyway, last night i tried 1 grain of natural thyroid for the first time. this has been sitting there ready to be used if i wasnt going to improve you see. I was taking 175mg of T4 only and so i dropped this down to 100mgs and added the 1 grain. i could feel a big improvement within 1/2h, but i have no idea if this is a placebo effect. i will continue with this for a week and see how i fair. Guest guest
Hi Nigel I believe that any of the other desiccated thyroid extracts are likely to be better than the newly formulated Armour. I honestly would not advise anybody now to start the new Armour if they are taking thyroid extract for the first time in their lives. There are other products such as Nature Throid, Westhroid, Erfa Thyroid (the MHRA states that NHS doctors CAN prescribe these products for patients who do not do well on levothyroxine so long as they take responsibility for this themselves as their medical insurance does not cover them should anything go wrong.) There is also the Greater Pharma 'Thiroid' and Thyroid-s. As you have now received your new 'Thiroyd' I would give that a go and see how you do. I doubt very much that what you are experiencing is a placebo effect - natural thyroid, for some of us, works miraculously. Luv - Sheila I would stop taking synthetic all together, I just had to take T4 for 3 days and I was feeling dreadful, till I got some help from Sheila (thank you again) new Armour is still much better than T4, but I just got my thyroid from Greater Pharma 1drugstore.com 2 days ago and think it may be better than the old Armour! Or maybe it's the 10 day effect. What brand are you taking Mars a Day?
Guest guest
Hi, In a word no! But, as you know you are susceptible to this, then take it into account when trying something new- only long lasting effects will be real. It is not unusual to feel better on an increased dose of thyroid meds, only to get worse again after a week or two- this tends to mean that you are not at optimum yet and need to increase. > Subject: Placebo Effect> > Does anyone else have a very strong placebo effect when they try a new medication.> > > > i could feel a big improvement within 1/2h, but i have no idea if this is a placebo effect. i will continue with this for a week and see how i fair.> > > > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified.
