Guest guest
Oh - you do make me laugh - and cry - and I can SO udnerstand your frustration at hearing your friends and family are able to get a FULL thyroid function test in going to their doctors to get help to stop smoking. If this REALLY is the case, then you must write to your GP with a copy to your practice manager and ask for an explanation as to why you, who are suffering all the symptoms, showing all the signs of hypothyroidism, cannot get a FULL thyroid function test. If it is true they are getting a full tft - this is appalling that they are refusing to test yours. Go and have a good scream and a shout and you may be feel better - but make sure you are in the middle of a field with no cows or sheep (or you might cause a stampede). Luv - Sheila I don't know if anyone else feels the same as me about this. For the past week I have felt pretty bed and spent most of it either in bed or on the sofa. Most of it crying. Couch potato or what! Blood tests galore (well we know the rest lol).Tv on, and I'm getting pretty sick of hearing how you can go along to the GP if you smoke and get help to stop. Some of my family have beeen and they have all gotten free treatment!!! They were also given a medical and a full blood test that I know to one included a FULL yes a FULL thyroid function test! (GRR)Never being a smoker myself I don't know how hard it is to give up. However, my gripe of the day is this:With us thyroid sufferers who can't get the treatment we soulfully need.Did we ask our bodies to do this to us, did we inhale something that took its toll on our bodies and gave us this? I think NOT.So why oh why, do Gp's with no questions asked treat people who just want to give up smoking - in my opinion they put the ciggerette to their mouths, they lit it and they smoked them. They know the problems that smoking can do, as its on the packets - in my opinion they had the choice to either not to smoke it or smoke it and risk health issues. And so therefore, if they wish to give up smoking they should take measures on their own to stop! After all did their GP hand them the first cigerette to smoke!Did any of us go down the path wishing our thyroid would make us as ill as it has done with no fault of our own. When we take a trip to the Gp's what do us thyroid sufferers get told, its either in our head, or the blood tests are normal so go away you can't be ill, but come back if you feel worse! Perhaps its time I started to smoke! There are times I want to scream and times I want to scream and shout! This is one of them.Gripe over for the day! Climbing off the soap box! Guest guest
I know the feeling! The first endo I saw said yes, I had a thyroid problem but that it was my own fault as I smoked! He told me in no uncertain terms to get out of his consulting room and go to pathology to get some blood tests done and not to come back till I'd stopped smoking! On looking at his hands I noticed that his fingers were covered in nicotine stains, well you can imagine the tirade he got after that!! I called him a hypocrite and said that he should be struck off for talking to me the way he had. Needless to say, I made sure the next appointment was with someone else!! So I've been told: 1 " Its your fault you're ill " , 2 " There's nothing wrong with you " , 3 " Its all in your head " , 4 " You don't know what you're talking about " , 5 " Its better not to know anything about your illness " and lastly (my favourite) " You've been looking on the internet!!! Guest guest
Hi glynisrose, It's so sad that you have had such responses when all you want is to feel well. It really makes me wonder what they are taught at med school, or maybe they just don't have the courage to say ' I don't know'. I really trusted the elderly doc who used to say that to me- and then he would reach for his bookshelf and look it up.
