Guest guest
Hi everyone, Sorry I havent been in touch for a while but have I been struggling as usual. Just so you know where I'm out, please see the e-mail I recently sent to Dr Peatfield: Please could you help me? I am a patient of Dr. Skinner since March '08 having been sick for 20 so years. Had partial thyroidecomy in 1983 left side. TSH have always been in normal range. Have been untreated until are I saw Dr. Skinner. So you can image how awful it's been even tried to kill myself 6 times. Been put in a metal home too for severe depression. I could tell you the whole story but I'm sure you've heard it all before & I know your a busy man so wont bore you with it. Dr. Skinner has be great but I am still unwell. I'm on 175mg thryxoine & 1/2gram armour thyroid twice per day. I've had 2 adrenal test in the past. On 28/08/2006 7-00-8.00 2 depressed normal range 13-24 11.00-Noon 19 elevated normal range 5-10 04.00-05.00 1 depressed 3-8 11.00-midnight 18 elevated 1-4 Cortisol burden 40 normal range 23-42 On 07/03/2007 they were worse 7.00-8.00 9 depressed 11.00-noon 2 depressed 04.00-05.00 <1 depressed 11.00-midnight 1 normal Cortisol burden 13 Dr. Skinner did not comment on these saliva tests when I show him (last appointment 4 weeks ago). So I asked Sheila from the TPA.uk website for advice. She sugested I contact you. Dr. Skinner does not believe in treating the adrenal unless blood test serum coristol is negative. They were obvious in normal range 332 normal range 180-620. Blood test where done recently 29/5/08. I'm going to do another adrenal saliva test over the weekend with NPtech labs. I have been supporting my adrenal for 2 years now with various supplements. But most recently been take NAE since March 08, 6 tabs per day. Then because I was not getting results from that I been taking Isocort 8 tabs per day for 6 weeks. Felt alittle better but still stomach problems along with pain everywhere, dry mouth, dizziness, palpitations, headaches, chronic wind, overwhelming fatigue & various other symptoms. I scored 147 on the adrenal questionnaire. For the last 2 weeks I've been taking cortef. I followed you guidelines by taking 2.5mg & increasing very slowly. But within days my symptoms got worse with severe nausea & overwhelming digestive problems. I've stopped 2 days ago but got so bad today that I had to phone Dr. Skinner for advice. Unfortunately he could not help me. I know I have an under active thyroid but I don't think my medication can be effective until my adrenals are sorted out. Not sure why all the things I have tried so far have not worked. So I hope you don't mind I have come to you for help. Is that OK? Even if I have been a patient of Dr. Skinner? I would really really appreciate your help I just want so much to get better. I've lost nearly all my life so far with being ill & childless because of endometrosis & having to have a full hysterectomy at the age of 30. I'm now age 47. Anyway, I really look foward to hearing from you & hopefully meeting with you very soon. Hopefully I will get an appointment to see Dr Peatfield soon. I will let you know how I get on. Guest guest
Hi Ruth, Thanks for your kind reply. I'll probably wont wait too long for Dr. P to reply. If he doesnt call me tomorrow, I will follow-up with a telephone call to him so I can try to see him asap. The way I'm feeling at the moment I need to see him pretty sharpish just in case I do anything stupid. I'm just concerned he wont see me cos I'm Dr. S patient. But see what he says. Thanks again. x Hi , just sending you a big hugs, sounds like you've been to hell and back, bless you. Guest guest
Hi , I don't think that you been a patient of Dr S will be a problem at all! They're both professionals and will just want to get you well at the end of the day. Whereabouts do you live? Have you looked at the list on the TPA to see where you could get to see him? Even if you can't get to see him for a while, I'm sure he'll give you some advice in the meantime. Please get some emotional support if all this is getting too much for you and if need be see your NHS GP and ask for some kind of 'talking therapy'. I've been where you are and it helped to have someone unconnected to me to talk to and also it helps having someone that can see things from the 'outside'. One of the big things for me that was causing emotional symptoms was low blood sugar and is much better since I started the NAE. Are your adrenals ok? I have found it absolutely necessary to eat regularly and try to keep blood sugar constant else I'll be up and down all day. On my worse days I'd be happy one minute and in floods of tears the next. Unfortunately the NHS don't tend to think about physical causes behind emotional problems and just hand out anti-d's like they're sweets. There is a place for them but not the only answer I think, sometimes they make things worse. Ruth x > > Hi Ruth, > Thanks for your kind reply. I'll probably wont wait too long for Dr. P to reply. Guest guest
Hello I am so sorry to hear that you have been suffering so much. Please keep on trying to contact Dr peatfield and please don't worry that he might not take you on because you have been a patient of another private doctor, he will see you, and that will make no difference. The NHS should not be leaving you to look after your own health, especially when it is obvious that you have such awful adrenal problems. Please send me your telephone number and I will FAX Dr Peatfield today and ask him to contact you urgently. In fact, I will copy this message and FAX this through to him. Guest guest
You're very welcome . Stay with us and we will try to give you all the help and support we can. One of the worst aspects of this illness is not having anybody around who understands exactly what you are going through. Hope you can see Dr Peatfield soon, and yes, he is a very caring man. Luv - Sheila Bless you Sheila . Dr. Peatfield just called me. He said that I have complete adrenal burden & must increase my isocort to 12 per day straight away, I'm in danger of complete collapse otherwise. What a nice man he is. So so caring. He said he would telephone me again in a few days to see how I am & will then arrange an appointment to see him. I have to stay on all thyroid meds too.I think I may get there this time. Thanks for helping to save my life.Love youx> , I have just spoken with Dr Peatfield, he was having his dinner, but he has promised to get back to you. Guest guest
Thanks Penny. Speaking with Dr. P last night defo help me stay positive. At least I know for sure now that my adrenals are the main reason I'm not getting better. I'm sure once they are sorted out I will be well again. Dr. P will get me there & thanks to this forum I found him. Take care. x > Hi > > You've had a rotten time and I'm sure we're all thinking of you.
