Guest guest
I went for NAET treatments. It is all done with muscle testing and acupressure. I don't know how they do it more conventionally. Guest guest
The simplest way to check for an iodine allergy is to have some iodized salt. Flechas says that if you can tolerate iodized salt, you can use Iodoral, Lugol's, etc. Most people who have allergic reactions to seafood are NOT allergic to iodine. If you highly suspect you might be allergic, start with just a bit of salt. And if you have no reaction, increase it. If you want to know more, here is a link to information on iodine allergies, etc. iodine/links/Clinical_Pearls_001138891653/Iodine_Allergies_001138752470/ Zoe Re:Iodine allergy >How do you check for an iodine allergy? >Thanks.>Roxie Hi All, I have a similar question: if someone has had an allergic (ie anaphylactic) reaction to some shellfish, how would they safely go about testing for an iodine allergy? thanks, Dahlia
Guest guest
I also am very interested in this question. I have read many times that an allergy to iodine is very unusual. My DH, who dearly loves all kinds of shellfish, has only recently the past couple of years had this reaction where about 30 mins. after eating any kind of it, he gets very nauseated, vomits violently, then it's over. No swelling, wheezing, rashes, itching, swelling, the usual kind of symptoms you would associate with shellfish. BUT, if he were allergic to iodine, why would he not have the same reaction to eating Sushi (with seaweed) and fish from the ocean, which he eats all the time? Donna The fish are biting. He may want to reconsider eating shellfish no matter how much he likes it (most people like and even crave foods they may be allergic to). He's gotten off easy with vomiting so far. The next time he may not be so lucky. You might want to see your doctor about an EPI pen to keep on him for emergencies. Sometimes people get residues of serious allergic substances like peanuts and shellfish on other foods and they aren't aware of it, so an EPI pen is a good thing to have and know how to use for someone with serious allergies. Guest guest
Some people have high IgA levels in their skin, and it seems tobreak out into a rash if exposed to iodine. I'm not sure what thechemical reason for this is, but folks with dermatitis herpetiformisare told to avoid iodine for this reason ... and I did avoid it for a long time for that reason, and ended up with other problems fromlack of iodine. That reaction isn't technically an allergy ... the IgA is there becauseof some other allergy in your gut (usually gluten/dairy/soy/corn/eggs/yeast) but the IgA doesn't make your skin erupt until there is iodine present.-- On 7/14/07, twosteprav < twosteprav@...> wrote:I always put povidone Iodine on cuts and after about 3 days I get a rash. Guest guest
Yes, I'm allergic to povidone (it's inert and i guess my body creates an inflammation around inert stuff like povidone). If swllowed in any tablets I get asthma.. no matter which tablets, i look .. see povidone. I then have to get the active ingredients compounded without the povidone and I can take the meds.. sigh. I think the pharmaceutical industry is a bit think sometimes.. just because its " inert " doesnt mean our bodies wont react to it bu treating it as " foreign " and decide to mount an attack! I did an internet search and quite a few are allergic to povidone in a similar way.. so don't be surprised if you are. Try a soln without the povidone?.. like Lugols over in US? > > I always put povidone Iodine on cuts and after about 3 days I get a > rash. Guest guest
read swell instead of swallow I'm french ... I use the wrong word sorry Hi!According to DrBrownstein, you put iodine on your arm. If it swell or itch after a while, you are alergic to it

Guest guest
Iodine is not a dye. They stick it in dye to trick the body into taking it into the cells. Iodine gets the bad rap, but it is the dye that caused the problem. Guest guest
I could not do the injection dyes. It was the dye and not the iodine. My Dr's were wrong. I wasn't allergic to iodine. I now take 100 mgs of Iodoral. Iodine Allergy >I am curious if anyone knows what is going on with the people who have > the severe allergic reaction to Iodine. I mentioned that Iodine might help to detox - and his reply was that he couldn't take iodine because he was allergic to the dye. I'm starting to think that this is too much of a coincidence so now I'm wondering if there is a connection between a certain level of being bromide toxic and having the allergic reaction - ie an allergic reaction to the iodine dye could actually be a symptom of severe bromide toxicity?
