Guest guest
Hi, Barbarita - th full liquid stage can be frustrating. But try these things full of protein: pureed and thinned CHILI, meaty soups like bean and ham or pea and ham, pureed and thinned meatloaf, guacamole with sour cream or salsa, mashed potatoes, pureed fruits or veggies - lots of choices. THick juices like tomato or the Hansen nectars are fine too. also, try chewing GUM - the act of chewing is important to feeling satisfied. Chew a small piece in case you accidentally swallow it - but try not to! Lower-cal smoothies with fruit, peanut butter, etc alsdo have good protein - and that helps us feel full and satisfied. Try taking something from home that you can eat. Maybe tell them you are on a special diet, or something. Or take a protein shake and tell hem your doc wants you on liquids for a few days...(absolutely true) Hang on! you'll make it! hope these ideas help, and i'm sure othes will pipe up too. Guest guest
Great question Barbarita. i was invited to a christmas dinner one week after banding. i simply brought my own food and explained that i was currently gastro-challenged. i told them ahead of time that i would be doing this. noone really had a problem or wanted to investigate what was really behind it all. george > > Hello Again from Tijuana. > > Hope you are all well! Guest guest
Sandy, i used to chew gum. a lot of gum. big wads of gum. as you said, the chewing was therapudic. i never swallowed the gum. that is until i was banded. one nite, i must have had about 15 chiclet size pieces of sugarless gum in my mouth (no fills yet) and all of a sudden, i swallowed the whole thing. of course, i was near panic. but nothing happened. i rarely chew anymore, as a result. i'm going to try two pieces right now. i'll concentrate on keeping them in my mouth til its time to throw them away. george > > > > Hello Again from Tijuana. > > > > Hope you are all well! And if your doc allows blended stuff like that so early, be thankful, as many would have you on clear liquids for at least a week (things you can see through). > I am trying to walk some everyday. I am down 10lbs the first week. > However, I am starting to really want to cheat and EAT something > thats not MUSH!! Yeah, it is tough, no question. But again, hope your " mush " is not just mush, but more like full liquids, things you can drink through a straw. > about the surgery. So I LIED and said I had eaten already, and I had half > of a milkshake while they ate. It was literally the only thing on the menu > that would work for me. Good choice. In general, we try to avoid liquid calories EXCEPT when we're on liquids. If you'd felt like it, I wouldn't have worried about the whole thing, as the calories just aren't that big a deal for the moment. > Tomorrow is going to be even worse, my husbands boss has insited that we > come over for dinner because they are making ino food. Just DO NOT DO IT. And, TAKE FOOD WITH YOU. Explain, as you have, that your doc (you don't have to say it was a band surgeon) told you just to have things like pudding or milk or whatever. I know some hostesses will be a bit peeved with you taking your own, and not eating their delicious stuff, but if they press, just say you wouldn't want to get sick there, and you're sorry. As to the looks and smells of the " yummy things " (which I know that they are to me), well, that's tough, but so are you, and you can do it. AND if you do try to eat that stuff, you probably WILL get sick. > Saturday all the churches here go to the beach for > cookouts, and Sunday all the men at church are having breakfast for everyone > for Easter. If you tried the pizza you'd possibly be compromising your band, and besides, you want to get used to NOT thinking about junk food like pepperoni pizza. The VERY toughest part of being a bandster is learning how to avoid certain foods, and to have minimal amounts of others. New habits are hard to make, but you can do it. I know that after five years, I could eat a bit of pizza topping, in most cases NO crust, and wouldn't even think of pepperoni due to spices and calories and fat and possibility of it getting stuck. dan -- " It's OK to be a little broken, everybody's broken in this life " Jon Bon Jovi Dan Lester, Boise, Idaho, USA www.mylapband.tk Banded 4/27/03, Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana Started at 355, at goal in the 210-220 range for almost 4 years Ultimate goal of 195 Tummytuck in Boise and SmartLipo in Tijuana
