Hi Deb

>I'm a little down at the moment, I don't know whether its due to my new batch of meds.... I take 175 mcg thyroxine, and the pharmacy has has given me 3 different brands of thyroxine, which I think isn't helping.<

You should insist that your GP writes on the prescription the brand of thyroxine that suits you best. Each brand is a little different to the others and this can cause problems for hypothyroid sufferers. Do not allow the pharmacy to change the brand you use. Ask your GP to write ELTROXINE next time you need a prescription, as this is considered a good brand.

>I'm also down because no matter what I do I can't seem to shift my weight. Im going to a gym 3 and 4 times a week, and going for 6 mile walks at the weekend. I am following a diet, and even though I drop 4lbs it goes back on, then comes back off again.<

This is the problem of not being treated with the right amount of thyroid hormone replacement that gives you back your normal health. You should post your last thyroid function tests and reference ranges for each. If you haven't had a test done for some time, ask your GP to repeat your test. Ask for a TSH, Free T4, Free T4 as we will not know whether you have a conversion problem or not without the last two.

>Anyway to cut a long story short,my query is would changing to Armour thyroid help me with my weight loss?<

It is always better for everybody who isn't doing well on synthetic thyroxine to change to Armour. Armour is a natural product and contains all the hormone our body needs - and pigs thyroid extract is pretty close to human thyroid. Have you talked to your GP about this. You could always go to my 'little' website www.armourinfo.freeuk.net and copy off some of the letters there, putting in your own name and address where appropriate and send them to your doctor. Use the letters that are appropriate to your case.

Hope this helps

Luv - Sheila

> > Hi Sheila,

Thankyou for getting back to me,

I had my last blood tests in Sept, my TSH is 0.01 (0.38 - 5.0) and

my free T4 WAS 21 and I cant remember the range but I think

the " normal " range was 22.9, my T3 was 8.8 I was taking 30 mcgs T3

too, but have cut it down to 20mcg and I feel much better having done

that, and the normal range for T3 is 3.5 - 6.5

I have also got a muscle pain in my upper arm, that started just

after I was diagnosed with HypoT, and has never gone, so again you

think that taking Armour will aliviate this? I am going to ask my GP

to refer me to see Dr Burrows at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, as I

see he is on the list that prescribes Armour. Im just wondering if

my PCT will allow meto go on it if a consultant in my area will

prescribe it, or am I going to have a long fight like everyone else

lol.

I do feel quite well to what I have done, and my only real problem is

my weight, which is getting me down, as it just wont shift, and I am

hoping that Armour will put that right for me, or am I being a little

too hopeful here?

I have been reading all the letters opn file, and I am going to see

my GP in person I think and take him all the info on it.

Thankyou so much Sheila for this website, you are an angel.

I am learning new things all the time, even though I dont post often,

I still read all the posts.

Thanks

Deb x
