>Hi Berny

I would say most probably you need to work up to a higher Armour dose

rather than increase the hc. 90mg (1 1/2 grains) is still relatively

low, my understanding is that often people need at least 3 grains. But

it needs to be increased slowly. There's also a method advocated by Dr

Rind, where you measure your temperatures at 3 points during the day

over a number of days, and the results can help you to decide whether

you need more hc or Armour. http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp

You have to be with it enough to take the temps regularly though, and

I have to confess that I've only managed it once over the last few months!

Good luck, Janet

Hi berny

How did you get up to 90mg in 4 weeks. What dose did you start with and

how have you increased the dose and when. Are you splitting your dose

of Armour and taking it twice a day, because the T3 has a short half

life and by 2.00p.m./3.00p.m. you can get what we call an 'afternoon

slump'which is a sign that you are running out of the active hormone

T3.What time in the morning are you taking your dose of Armour and what

other medications are you taking at the same time. Also, why did you

start on Cortisol? Did your GP put you on this? Did you do a 24 hour

salivary adrenal profile, or have any other test to see whether your

cortisol and DHEA are outside the reference range. Unless you have

evidence that your adrenals are not funcitoning as they should, there

shouldn't really be a need for you to have any adrenal support. Some

people need to dose with cortisol at several times during the day.

We usually recommend that if you do have adrenal problems, that you try

to sort these before starting on cortisol, but if you have been on

adrenal support for some time before starting Armour, then if you have

tried to increase your Armour dose and you have an adverse reaction,

then yes, it is often necessary to take a small increase in cortisol to

get you over the increase in Armour.

Have you had any recent thyroid funciton tests, and if so, what were

the results, together with the reference range for each test.

Sheila

Dr P started me on 30mg for 2 weeks then 60mg at for 2 weeks. At the

end of the 4th week I started on 90mg. Yep I am splitting the dose

7.30 and 11.30. I take it together with the hc because i presume it

is better. Yes I was diagosed adrenal insufficiency by my endoc

before meeting Dr P and they gave me cortisone acetate. I take a last

dose of hc at 15.30. I intend to do a thyroid test in July. I have

to say that the tiredness was also in the morning. Perhaps I am just

adjusting. If you have any advice to add please do.

thanks berny
