Guest guest
Welcome! It takes most people 3-5 small monthly fills to get to a good level. your doc should be explaining all this carefully to you, and helping you get to a good level asap. Please see the info in the files about fills, for more guidelines. With a good fill, we should not have trouble eating (assuming we are following the band food choices rules and eating technique rules), we should never have pain or barfing, we can eat 3 small meals a day and 1-2 small snacks, we can meet the calorie needs for safe loss (about 1200-1500 cal a day for most women, 1800-2000 or so for men), and can meet the daily protein, fiber, calcium and GOOD carb needs. the good cards (grains, veggies, nonfat milk producst and fruit) should be 50-55% of the diet. Preotin is impt, but only about 10-15% of the diet - and all the other things are just as important The Band Guide in the files will also give you more of the basic info you should be getting from your doc and his aftercare program. with a good fill, we should be losing 1-2 # a week averaged over a month or so. If we are not, something is not quite right - we are not doing the things needed ourselves, and/or we do not have a good fill yet. it can take some tweaking to get to " just right " . Most of our eyes " don't work " - we are not able to SEE our positive changes, after years of obesity and seeing ourselves (mentally and physically) as obese. This is why taking pictures every month or 2 is good, starting with before surgery if possible. Stand in a doorframe and have someone take a picture - front, back, sideways. It will help you SEE your loss and changes, and is invaluable. but it sounds as if you do not have a good fill, so please see your doc to discuss all this. Be sure you're doing YOUR part -eating well, meeting nutritional needs, getting daily exercise (even a walk is a good start), meeting fluid needs (80-100 oz a day of no-calorie fluids) , and working hard onm the emotional eating and food issues we all have - preferably with a good therapist. Glad you're here, and we look forward to your questions and your taking part and offering ideas to others too. :-) Sandy R > > Hello everyone!! I hope everyone is doing well. Guest guest
I was banded December 18, 2007 and have lost only 6 pounds. That is including the liquid diet the week before the surgery. I saw a man that had his surgery the same day that I had mine at the 2 week post- op appointment. He's lost 27 pounds! I am trying not to be discouraged but have to admit I am. I have insulin resistance so I knew it would be tough. I thought I would lose some. Any one else with insulin resistance and PCOS and how has it affected you? How do I stay motivated? Guest guest
Welcome to you too! We love new people here..every new peron brings a wealth of personal background and perspective to our group. Men and heavier people often lose faster at first. We are all different - different metabolisms, different activity levels, different eating choices, and much more. There is ALWAYS someone losing slower than we are, and faster than we are. Please don't compare yourself to some other person you only " see. " You don't even have a fill yet, so your band is not working. Many don't lose at all before a good fill level. 6# represents 4-6 weeks of loss with a good fill, so it jst fine, and more than many would have at this point. Instead of saying " I have ONLY lsot 6# " - say " I have ALREADY lost 6# ! " I can't stress enough how important this positive, optimistic Mind-set is to our success. THis is the whole basis of Guided Imagery, and why the Bandster Success Guided Imagery CD's are helping so very many Bandsters with these needed mental and lifestyle changes. (More info at www.BandsterME.com) But we CAN lose fine, even befor a good fill, if we take the band rules to heart , as in the last post. The time before a first fill is never wasted time. You need to put in place the things that are YOUR part of the formula, so when you get to a good fill level, your serious loss will start. Banding is a sseries of small steps, and each step depnds on doing reaasonably well with the last. Use the time well, and you'll soon be losing even better. Do get your fist fill as soon as your doc allows - 6 weeks, for most. Tehn, get more monthly until you are " just right. " Sandy > > I was banded December 18, 2007 and have lost only 6 pounds. Guest guest
That sounds like perfect restriction to me. The whole idea is that you can't eat all the time, isn't it? You're you, not him. His loss isn't really your business, is it? I didn't think so. Men almost always lose faster. No, it isn't fair, but it is reality. Why? Some because men generally have more to lose, some because they generally have faster metabolisms, some because they often work harder at it, including more exercise. Probably other reasons we don't know, too. > I am trying not to be > discouraged but have to admit I am. Discouragement is normal. We all want instant gratification. Guest guest
Please don't feel discouraged. You have lost some weight and that is progress. Are you doing some sort of exercise (ie; walk, swim aerobics, dance, etc). We have to cooperate with the band and consume less calories. Some of us have very " efficient " bodys that are reluctant to turn lose of the excess fat. Just keep on keeping on. I have lost 50 pounds since my proecedure in 06. Am I disappointe it hasn't been more? Yes, but I am also greatful for the 50 pounds I have lost. Hang in and let us know how we can help. MKW > > Hello everyone!! I hope everyone is doing well. Guest guest
Hi Anne Marie, Good job your beginning weight loss! I had my surgery on Nov. 29th. I felt that first month after the surgery I have been so hungry and felt no different than before the surgery and am also feeling discouraged. I just had an adjustment 4 days ago and feel a little restriction, but I don't think enough. I would love to be e-mail encouragement to each other. I will try to be motivated until this adjust gets right. Thanks for being honest, when I read your e-mail it was exactly what I'd been feeling but didn't want to write. Sincerely, Debbie > > Hello everyone!! I hope everyone is doing well. I had my lp surgery on > October 8, 2007. I have had 2 fill's since my surgery. Guest guest
Hi, Debbie - I see from your info at joining our group that you're near me. we have a womnderful local support group that we'd love to have you join! It's full of great people from several different docs, and you'd learn a lot and also be able to share your own experiences. One of the things we should all learn from our pre-op teaching is that the first 6 weeks can be hard. We will have no restriction, usjally, and will feel as if we didn't even have surgery, once we heal. Most people are able to eat as much as before the surgery. It's also essential to know that it takes most people 3-5 small monthly fills to get to a good level of restriction. Expecting to be there in 2-3 months is just not reasonable. The first 1-2 fills is not even MEANT to be enough - but only as a gentle introduction to stomach pressure. the stomach is VERY grumpy, and we have to sneak up slowly with fills or it rebels badly. If we get an overfill, there is pain, barfing, and true misery. then we need an unfill, a lengthy rest period, and then we must start slowly again. It's much betetr to go slowly with fills in the first place. All this should be well-explained by our docs before surgery, imo. and please never hesitate to post questions or conerns here. that's what we are for. There is a lot to learn with banding, and ther is no " dumb " question. Let me know if you'd like ifno on the support group. Sandy r > > > > Hello everyone!! I hope everyone is doing well. I am so new at this and don't know anyone else personally to ask questions of. Look forward to asking more questions. Thanks for the encouragement and knowledge. Guest guest
Hi Ann Marie I joined this group a few weeks ago so this is my first post. I'm answering because I feel we have something in common.I had my surgery in May last year on talking to other successful people was expecting huge weight loss. But to date still only loss around 1/2 a kilo or less a week. I actually sat down over Xmas because my daughter had brought a cd that charted weight loss and diets etc. So I filled in the graph for weight loss.In total with all those 1/2 kilo losses and the weight I lost before surgery on the liquid diet I have lost a total of 51 kilos. so even though I'm not experiencing huge losses it does all add up. I to have only had 2 fills with only 4.5mls in the band at present. So I suppose I'm trying to say it does work slower with some then others. Rosie Warrnambool Australia Discourgaged Hello everyone!! Guest guest
Rosie - you're doing just fine! You're even better than the average loss, which is 1-2 # a week - or 50-100 # in a year. Your " only " 1/2 kilo/week is more than 1 # a week - and your 51 kilos is 112# !! That is wonderful! Sometimes we don't see how well we are really doing. We don't want " huge losses " in a short period - the point of the band is a slower and SAFE loss. We have all lost with crash diets before, and what happened? It all came right back, with exra each time., THIS time, weare learning the way to lose slowly and safely, and with permanent changes in lifestyle and eating that will allow us to KEEP the weight off this time. It's a whole new mind-set. But any time we have not lost for 3-4 weeks in a row, we need to re- evaluate our eating, exercise, fluids, protein/fiber/calcium and the other things that are OUR responsibility. If all those things are still pretty good, it may be time to see one's doc to consider more fill. Sandy r > > Hi Ann Marie > I joined this group a few weeks ago so this is my first post. Guest guest
Hi Ann Marie, It could be worse. I was banded in September, 2007 and not only haven't lost a single pound I gained back the 15 I lost during the liquid phase! I know why, too. I haven't been keeping up with my part of the work. I've had one 2cc fill in Oct. and have a slight restriction but I should have gone back since then for an adjustment. I'm also not making the right food choices. I stay on track during the day but come 11:00 pm or so I start grazing. I also wasn't walking everyday. I weigh 194 lbs and want to loose 60. It doesn't seem like a lot but I am only 5 foot tall. I'm not going to loose as quickly as someone who has 100+ lbs to loose. Logically I realize where I've gone wrong -- emotionally I think of all the what if's... it doesn't work for me, my band is broken..yadda, yadda, yadda. The good news is we have a place like this for support and knowledge. And, even though it doesn't feel like it, you will loose. For me, I have been walking each day and am going for a fill tomorrow. Figuring out what to eat is still difficult for me and I'd just about pay BIG bucks for book with weekly menus. Also, I can see a light at the end of a 2 year stress tunnel and know I'm going to start loosing now that life is resuming to a normal pace. Keep your chin up and be patient. > > Hello everyone!! I also wasn't Grazing can be helped by going to bed. Why are you up then (I know, not my business, but many of us have spent years eating instead of sleeping, as we were lonely, bored, horny, whatever). It also helps if you only have GOOD grazing food in the house. If you never have cookies or ice cream or whatever in the house, it isn't likely you're going to change from jammies to clothes, put on shoes, start the car, and go down to the 7-11 or White Hen or Circle K or whatever. > walking everyday. Yeah, we have all been there and done that. I've never heard of anyone who got a band as their " first choice " before trying WW, JC, OA, LAWL, and all the rest. And we get ourselves into a mindset of NONE OF THE OTHER STUFF HAS WORKED, BUT I'M HAVING SURGERY AND PAYING A BUNCH OF MONEY FOR IT AND THE BAND IS MAGIC AND I'LL AUTOMATICALLY LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT CHANGING A THING. WRONG. And the really strange thing is that we are smart enough to laugh at those commercials that say " eat whatever you want and still lose 5 pounds a week " . Yeah, right. > The good news is we have a place like this for support and knowledge. > And, even though it doesn't feel like it, you will loose. Guest guest
Of course you're different from most in that . To many of us the issue on a cruise is that you CAN graze ALL DAY AND NIGHT with all sorts of yummy things available 24/7. And it isn't nearly as much trouble to go up a couple decks and down the passageway to get to the yummy buffet as it is to get dressed and drive somewhere. I will say I've lost on one cruise and stayed even on another, but sure understand why most gain on one. dan Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 7:09:00 AM, you wrote: > late nite grazing: this is the reason that i always lose weight when > i'm away from home. just got back from a ten day cruise to the > carribean. like the new years cruise last year, i lost about 4 > pounds. everyone else gained about a pound a day. > without the pantry at my disposal, i have no problem losing. -- " It's OK to be a little broken, everybody's broken in this life " Jon Bon Jovi Dan Lester, Boise, Idaho, USA www.mylapband.tk Banded 4/27/03, Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana Started at 355, at goal in the 210-220 range for almost 4 years Ultimate goal of 195 Tummytuck in Boise and SmartLipo in Tijuana

Guest guest
oh, i've driven without them, but personally prefer having them on then. and it may be a legal requirement in some states. of course wearing clothes is optional too if you're just going thru drivethru. at the driveup coffeeshop I go to there are some very attractive young ladies who wear " attractive clothes " (not as revealing as Hooters, but more so than you'd wear to the office in most places). Anyway, a couple months ago a guy drove up to get his coffee and he was in the middle of " pleasuring himself " right there in front of her. She sold him the coffee and got his license number and car description as he drove away. She called police and they arrested him at his place of work that afternoon. Talk about stupid.... Anyway, the young lady it happened to was on duty a later day and I asked her about it...and complimented her on doing the right thing and not just ignoring it. She said her only regret was not " accidentally spilling the coffee in his lap " when she gave it to him. dan Wednesday, January 9, 2008, 11:33:01 AM, you wrote: > You have to wear shoes to drive the car???? -- " It's OK to be a little broken, everybody's broken in this life " Jon Bon Jovi Dan Lester, Boise, Idaho, USA www.mylapband.tk Banded 4/27/03, Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana Started at 355, at goal in the 210-220 range for almost 4 years Ultimate goal of 195 Tummytuck in Boise and SmartLipo in Tijuana
