Hello everyone, I am a relatively new bandster and I am still working

out all the kinks. I have type ii diabetes and severe insulin

resistance. I had surgery two weeks ago tommorrow and I have yet to

have a normal blood sugar reading. I cannot seem to get below 180. I

am taking regular insulin on a sliding scale. I feel great, just would

love it if I saw a downard movement in my glucose levels. Has anyone

else had similar issues?

Welcome, cheyenne ! a great many of those with type 2 diabetes are able to

greatly reduce or even eliminate their need for meds, with a much improved and

reasonable exercise. I hope you're being followed closely by a diabetes

specialist, not just a family doc. DM is very much a speciality area, with many

new things and changes all the time, and it takes a dedicated specialist to

read, learn, and follow all of them.Have you gotten very clear guidelines from

your DM doc about band eating? You'll need to be especially careful about

following both Band and Dm needs to do well with both - but many, many do and

you should also be able to - with some good learning.Glad you're here!please ask

any questions you think of, and learn from the others here. you'll be able to

help others coming after you too, and share your experiences to help us all

learn and grow. sandy R>> Hello everyone, I am a relatively new bandster and I am

P.S. Cheyenne, my doc took me off all insulin and diabetic pills the day of

surgery. Curious why your doc didn't. Sometimes being a loser is a GOOD

Hi -

I was banded May 2005. In August 2005 I was starting to train for marathons

and kept feeling weak - almost to the point of having to faint. And when I

went to my PCP, my blood pressure was too low, and so was my sugar. I was

off all Diabetes meds and am down to one blood pressure medicine (even the

skinny people in our family have High Blood Pressure, it seems to be

genetic). I was off of all cholesterol meds since my surgery. We just do not

eat enough to keep those levels high if we eat right and follow bandster

guidelines.

After the first 20-30 lbs go, your sugars will normalize. However remember

you are ALWAYS a Type 2 diabetic. It is just whether it is under control. We

have no intestine cuts that effect our absorption of sugars, etc, so if we

eat crazy, non bandster food, and do not exercise our sugars will stay high

and have to be treated with medication if you do not do exercise, sensible

eating, etc.

Just a side note on that. I've been in the hospital several times for

plastic surgeries and other ailments since my banding. Every time my sugars

go up because of stress and infections. They monitor it in the hospital,

then when I get home, I stay on oral drugs for a month or so. Then when

exercise and normal eating resumes, I'm OK.

Also remember we are all different individuals. Banding will effect us all

differently. Always check, with your doctors!!
