Guest guest
Hi, I've just got back my thyroid blood results and have been told I'm borderline again. Results are FT4 28.3 (range 12-22) TSH 0.01. 7 weeks ago my results were FT4 13.2 (12-22), TSH 8.01. I had increased my levythyroxine from 150mcg to 200mcg after the earlier test results. I had a total thyroidectomy about 13 years ago and still don't feel well. I would be interested to hear what anyone has to say about this and my results. Thanks, Jus
Guest guest
Hi Jus These results look like you are not converting the inactive hormone (thyroxine) to the active hormone T3. Your T4 is not borderline, it is way too high and it looks as if it is going nowhere - never mind the liver where it should be converting. YOu really need to get a free T3 test to see where that lies in the reference range, and I will bet that it will be very low. If you are in an area where your local laboratory refuses to test Free T3, you can get this done by NPTech Services,. Go to our FILES and scroll down until you see NPOTech Services. That gives all the tests they do and the prices they charge. To get your Free T3 tested, that is £17. Your surgery might draw the blood if you ask nicely, otherwise, you could get it drawn at a private hospital. It staggers me how they can say your tests are "borderline" with such a high T3. I would say you probalby need to drop your T4 dosage and add in some T3. Get the Free T3 test done, it really is important, whatever your doctor tells you. Guest guest
Hi, How do you feel? These results may indicate you are overmedicated, but without a T3 it is impossible to ascertain if you are converting to T3. T4 is pretty inert and needs to be converted to T3 to be of use. You mat also have adrenal issues- see questionnaire on the website. Subject: Thyroid blood results Hi, I've just got back my thyroid blood results and have been told I'm borderline again. Guest guest
Bernadette, Without the reference ranges it's hard to tell properly, but assuming the ref range is 0.4 - 5 for tsh you don't look THAT bad..... a normal tsh is 1. The T4 range is usually around 9 - 22 and yours is 13.9 so not too bad if you are not on meds.. T3 range is usually 3 - 6.5 so if this is the case you could be low. so either no conversion or no uptake. A urine test would show how much t3 is being taken up by cells. Reasons for non conversion can be... low D3, B12, selenium, copper, zinc, ferritin (stored iron). low cortisol? It's a process of illimination.. Any chance you can get hold of the t3 reference ranges? or have it re measured? Guest guest
Hi Bernadette, See forum files for list of online pharmacied, but be aware- you are in Eire are you not? there are import restrictions that don't apply to the UK. T3 is very powerful so you need to learn a lot about it first before considering self treating. thyroid treatment From: rtdbateman@...Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2011 05:30:16 +0000Subject: Re: thyroid blood results I WOULD LIKE TP TRY T3 .
