I've been suffering really bad heart burn for the last few days and I

thought I'd have a look on the NHS Direct website. I had a look at the

reccommendations for Hypo and was shocked to see that they advocate ' a

simple blood test' to diagnose!!!! I contacted them and said that they

were irresponsible in stating this was the only way of diagnosing and

that symptoms, medical history and family history Have to be taken into

account as well. We shall see if they answer, strange that they are

flouting their own guidelines!!

The HSJ blog is usually a deeply depressing read, with lots of vindictive and angry comments and little constructive, but I must admit to laughing at the entry following a report that the government is facing backlash over plans to axe NHS Direct, and subsume some of its services under the new 'NHS 111' number being trialled in the North-east, see http://www.hsj.co.uk/5018782.article?referrer=e2
