I have been using iodine for ever and my prostate cancer continues to get worse and it doesn't control or inhibit bladder infections for me.

True but I wasn't having problems when I started and there wasn't an internet 30 years ago to access a knowledge base.

I had it and in my circumstance it was related to food chemical intolerance,

altered gut flora and nutritional deficiencies. Probably mercury as well messing

up my detox pathways.

Food Chemical Intolerance:

There was just a post about aspartame aggravating IC... this even more points to

the food chemical intolerance theory of IC. High salicylates in natural and

artificial foods sent me through the roof with pain.

As I understand it, food chem intol is a " full bucket " type of reaction. You

can eat low sal for several days and be okay, and then have a day with berries,

tomatoes, grapes, artificial preservatives and food coloring and then the pain

will hit b/c your body cannot process all of it. IBS, skin conditions and many

other health issues are connected with salicylate intolerance. Other food

chemicals such as amines could be a problem as well.

More on food chemical intolerance but not specifically related to IC at these

sites below. If I had to do it all over again, I would eliminate all sals for

at least 3 weeks and evaluate.

The ability to break down and detoxify food chemicals is related to your detox

pathways. Particularly sulfation, methylation and glucaronidation. I would rec

research on those body functions and nutritional supplements to support them.

(Such as methyl B12, methyl folate, B vits and sulfur.)

MSM Sulfur:

This is an over the counter supplement developed by Dr. Stanley who treats

thousands of patients for IC with DMSO. His book " The Miracle of MSM " is a must

read. Sulfur is a very important mineral to the body, and more of it than

magnesium is stored, it's third after potassium and calcium. It should have an

RDA but does not. I like Jarrow MSM. Upwards of 20 grams or more a day has

been reported to help IC but I do not take that much maybe b/c I have a very

high sulfur diet now (eggs, raw milk, etc.)
