Well over 99 percent of adjustable gastric bands (Lapband as well as

other brands) are done laprascopically (or as you called it, keyhole).

In fact, that's where the name lapband came from.  On very rare

occasions a doctor will need to open the patient, and I know I signed

a consent saying that the doc could if need be, but that is very rare.

My port incision is about two inches above and to my right of my belly

button. I have another slightly smaller incision about two inches above and

to my left of my belly button. I have two very small incisions that are

right where my pant waist band is and then one very small one that's at the

very top of my belly and in the center. I did have a few problems with the

waist line ones, but now, six weeks out, they are healed well and I've got

no problems.

I go to the doctor on Thursday to decide if I need my first fill or not.

Right now, I can eat about half of what I could before surgery. I've lost

29 pounds in six weeks.

I've never understood why any of the incisions would be put that low

on the belly. The band isn't down there, and it doesn't make sense to

put the port down there. Well, I'm assuming that the waist line means

around the belly button, not somewhere else.

Sandy, is there any medical/surgical reason you know for an incision

to be that low? Especially the port?
