You've heard it before from me, but " just because you can doesn't mean

you should " .

We all still have the habit (well, most of us do) of wanting to " see

how much we can cram in " (just as we did before banding) instead of

" seeing how little I can eat without suffering too much " .

What did it show about how open your stoma was? Do you need a fill?

Many need one after losing quite a bit of weight, and even without

slipping I firmly believe that your stoma can change for other

reasons, which we perhaps don't understand.

I doubt it, but who knows? Did the fluoro show any hernia? I believe

it would have if there were one.

Well, do what he says, but I doubt it'll give an answer.

The big question is the usual one, not of how much you're eating, but

WHAT are you eating? Have you gotten back to eating " bad things "

(define as you wish...ice cream, milkshakes, full fat lattes, pudding,

etc?) I can tell you from personal experience that during a high

stress year two years ago I gained 30 pounds after being at goal...I

was eating lots of comfort foods (brother was dying, then did, mother

then was dying, then did, all within 7 months) and lots of Vente Hot

Chocolates at Starbucks (550 or so calories each, or 3 a day was

adding on a half pound a day all by themselves, and I was usually

having 4 or 5.)

Have you considered counseling with an experienced weight loss

counselor?

Sherry, I'm afraid something is wrong if you can eat much more than a

cup-1.5 cups of food. that is the size a good pouch can safely hold.

When was that fluro? recently? Read by a band surgeon, not just a

radiologist? That new reflux is also a clue something is wrong,

especially if you have not had a recent new fill.

That endoscopy is the next step, to visulaize if there are other

problems going on. Have you ever had a too-tight fill that you dd not

get relieved son ? Ever able to eat only a very small amount after a

fill (less then 1/2 cup, for instance?) More than only occasional

barfing? These are all cloues to possible reasons for your trouble.

Yes, a new hiatal hernia can cause reflux, and some smaller ones are

hiding behind the band on fluoro and cannot be seen. This is another

reason for an endoscopy. Be sure it's done by a person knowledgeable

about the band - preferably your surgeon - sounds like it will be.

good luck - please let us know how you are.

Thanks so much for the email, Sandy. I thought I must be the only one with the

problem since I haven't heard from anyone.

I haven't had a fill since August 2005. I have a 4.0 band and my last fill was

3.8. I never had any problems before when I got fills. I do get lots of muscus

at different times and that is what you call " sliming, " I think. I just open my

mouth and it somes out. No forcing it. Not like throwing up whihc I have never

done. I was within 10 # of goal and now since my unfill---I have gained 30 #.

I know there is something wrong. The floroscope was read by a radiologist. My

doctor has asked for his partner to do the endoscopy next Monday. She is a band

doc and he says has done many and knows what to look for, He is an experienced

band doctor. He had done over 2000 in 2004 when I had mine. He also is banded.

I will keep you posted as to the results.

Thanks,

Sherry
