Guest guest
Hi everyone, The above has been the progression of my son who is 37 today (parental worries never stop!). He was a strong & healthy, albeit never athletic lad, when at the age of about 21 at uni he contracted glandular fever. Ever since then he seems to have fallen victim to any number of bouts of illness - tiredness / sore throats / headaches etc all of which I understand can be the aftermath of glandular fever. However, about 2 years ago he contracted an acute liver infection which although lablled 'hepatitis' was never specifically identified. Indeed his lifestyle ruled out any possibility of 'B' or 'C'. He had several months off work and was then only able to resume part time for a long while. It has left him permanently off colour and extremely tired with occasional bouts of depression. His GP put this down to 'post viral fatigue'. Having ready about some of the effects of hypothyroidism on this forum I suggested that he asked his GP to have thyroid function checked. This was done and TSH & T4 were reported to be 'normal' and his GP doesn't feel that the thyroid is relevant to his current state of (ill) health. My wife has hyperthyroidism and fibromyalgia so I have done a bit of reading around the subject and still have a nagging feeling that the thyroid might be implicated in my son's present condition. Any comments / suggestions as to a way forward would be most welcome. Regards,
