Guest guest
Hi everyone, Sorry I have some more questions. Does anyone know if it is ok to take Amytriptilline at the same time as thyroxine which is at night? For thyroid blood test, do I stop thyroxine the night before having the my blood test? Thank very much & dont know how I'd survived without this finding this forum. Thanks loads,
Guest guest
HI - couldn't find much about problems associated with taking amytriptilline (elavil) and thyroxine together. The only thing I could find was on the Canadia Thyroid Foundation website where they state http://www.thyroid.ca/Fact%20Sheets/Fact%20Sheet%202.html "Thyroxine and Some Antidepressants: Elavil, Ascendin, Etrafon, Limbitral, Pamelor, Surmontil, Tofranil, Tofranil P.M., Triavil, Norpramin. The combination of any one of these drugs and thyroxine raises the antidepressant effect with possible risk of abnormal heart rhythms. This occurs only when initiating thyroxine therapy" It is best to stop the thyroxine for at least 24 hours before your blood test - so yes, do not take it the night before you have your blood drawn. I won't go into details but I ended up in hospital because my heart was missing so many beats. It was resolved when I came off the tablets. I'm sure it will be fine for you, but if your heartbeat feels a bit erractic then take your pulse and just check on the regularity of the beat. Lots of people are OK with it. I hope it does the trick for you. Wyn x
