Guest guest
The girls endo visit…LM first My 2 girls have been on Iodoral since 11/15/07. LM had a goiter that disappeared and increased breast development (age 11 ½). The blood draw they had done last week showed high TSH in both girls who are on Iodoral, but I’ll deal with one at a time. LM’s first: 10/08/07 TSH 0.040 Free T4 1.03 (0.50-1.60) This doc refuses to do FT3 12/18/07 TSH 6.260 FT4 0.67 (0.50-1.60) 1/8/08 TSH was 50! FT4 was .55 (0.50-1.60) LM takes levoxyl 37.5 mcg and iodoral 12.5 mg daily along with a multi vit. The endo was very upset, but calmly as he could explained to me that I had shut off her thyroid by giving her iodine. Her body was calling for more thyroid hormone cause she wasn’t making any. BTW, I told him, she has NO hypothyroid symptoms. “She HAS to come off iodine” he said. I said that I wanted her on armour and he had a long dissertation about that. It seems the “Mad Cow” worry (according to him) actually happened with another “animal” product that was given to people for 30 years before they discovered the med was giving people the human form of “Mad Cow”. So while he knows Armour won’t cause “Mad Cow” per se, it MIGHT cause something equally devastating and we wouldn’t know about it for many years (does this sound nuts to anyone besides me?). He also said, he didn’t have a problem ordering armour, but NOT while she was on iodine. If I take her off iodine, he’ll retest in a month and IF her numbers (TSH & FT4 only) are OK he’ll order Armour. He said putting her on armour now he’d be treating blindly without knowing how it was effecting her. (well, NO he wouldn’t know because he won’t do FT3!!) He told me that “they” noticed an increase of hashimoto’s since iodine has been put in the salt many years ago. The increase, he believes, was caused by iodized salt. We get enough iodine with a regular diet and multivit., according to him. I asked him to read the work of Dr Brownstein, Dr Flechas and Dr Abrams and he said he would. That was a plus. I doubt he’ll be swayed, though. Well, I agreed to d/c the iodine because I want armour for her. BUT I really want her to be on BOTH iodine & armour. I need to find a dr who will order them! BTW, since I wrote the above yesterday, LM has had 2 ½ days with no Iodoral. She was crying very hard in church this AM saying “my throat hurts!” I asked her to point to where it hurt & of course, she pointed to her thyroid. I gave her 6.25 mg Iodoral as soon as we got home. I just can’t take her off & watch her suffer. What now? B God Bless America! One nation under God
