Guest guest
Hello Sheila Once again, thank you for sharing your lovely home with strangers and thank you for all your hard work. I have forgotten the gist of what was said yesterday - do I stop the thyroxine now or when I have the test results? The spit test was positive - I created a spectacular, haunting sea creature in the glass, who shall be named Percy. My husband wants to know if he could have caught it from me and he says he will never kiss me again! Where do you get the probiotics from? And, can you become reinfected? And, do I have to stop eating the Green & Black's choc? Warmest wishes Ann x Regards to Dr P
Guest guest
Hi Fiona and welcome, May I suggest you start asking your GP for copies of your blood tests as the best gift you can give yourself is learning to read your own bloods. You are able to measure any improvements and you will see improvements once you have studied the files here and implemented some of the guidelines. The blood tests shelia has mentioned are the first step in becoming empowered to regain your health and once you can see where your FreeT3 and FreeT4 are (along with the other results) the sooner you will be on the right meds and dose to health. Anecdotaly, many report that they feel best when their FreeT3 and FreeT4 is just above mid range, but we are all different. Feritan best at 50, preferably 70. Ferritan is iron in the liver, and it is in the liver that thyroid meds are converted and if you dont have enough ferritan, it doesn't get converted properly. *yes I know all so complicated when out brain has gone for a walk outside without us... But just stay around, read the files and know many have walked before you and are happy to share their experiences. jennyfreeman > Hi everyone. > Im so glad ive found someone to talk to. Guest guest
Hi Fiona, Your message isn't long or boring at all. You are definitely in a place where people understand what you are going through. I've found the people on this forum to be helpful and respectful. It is a good place to discuss things, and it is a wonderful place to get support while you are working through thyroid related issues. I've personally received a lot of help by being a part of this forum. I can relate to many of the symptoms that you have described. The brain fog and memory problems seem to be a common problem with many people on this forum. Difficulty with talking and lack of energy are things that many people on here suffer from too....including me! You asked about the sort of things you can say to your doctor. I had to go to the doc a couple of days ago and asked the very same question on the forum. One kind forum member (Stephie) wrote and told me to mention to the doctor that I felt that the condition was affecting my quality of life (or something similar to that). I mentioned that to my doctor and he listened more attentively to me after I said it. It is really important to know what your current thyroid levels are. Ask for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 tests to be done, and if you haven't had thyroid auto antibodies tested, also ask for that test (TPO antibody test). Just so you feel a bit more informed about the tests, here is a bit of background info. Sometimes the links are a bit long for this forum, so just copy from http: to .html and paste it into your browser. The labtestsonline is a reliable website, and in Australia (where I live) our version of the website was endorsed by our Federal Govt. TSH test http://www.labtestsonline.org.uk/understanding/analytes/tsh/test.html Thyroid antibodies test http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/thyroid_antibodies/test.htm\ l Free T4 test(this particular page refers to both the T4 test and Free T4 test. The test that you need to ask for is the FREE T4 test. http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/t4/test.html Free T3 test. It states that Free T3 is tested when you have hyperthyroidism, HOWEVER I had Free T3 levels below the normal reference range and I suffer from Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism, so unless I'd had that test, I would have never known! http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/t3/test.html It is also worth having an iron studies test done. Here's a hint about preparing for your appt. I write my questions on a sheet of paper and I take them with me to the appt. I let my doc know that I've written it down because I have difficulty with remembering things. If I didn't write it down, I doubt I would remember half of the things that I wanted to discuss. Listing your symptoms is also useful, so your doc can look through the list. I wish you all good luck with your appt. Please keep in touch and let us all know how your appointment goes. P xo ........Im so glad ive found someone to talk to. No one seems to understand.....I started of depressed , stressed out lack of energy , aching joints and feeling cold, fuzzy head and I thought I was going deaf. Went for a blood test and doc rang me back in a panic , my thyroid had stopped working and needed to go on levothyroxine straight away....I have had a couple of blood tests after the inital loading doses and to be honest feel damm awfull. ....for the past 3 weeks I feel like im walking through treacle and am sooooooooo tired im in bed at 8pm and sleep like a log. I have trouble talking and forget what im saying and cant be bothered with anything....Im back to the docs on tue and I want this sorted out im sick of feeling this way all the time....I want to go to the docs and not be fobbed off....Any ideas on what to say
Guest guest
Hi Fiona, The first step is to ask for your TSH and other test results, so you can compare how they looked at diagnosis and how they are now. Many docs seem to be satisfied with anything in range and not look for optimum. Remind him that 90% of healthy folk have a TSH of around 1.0 and that is what you would like him to aim for. Ask for a dose increase ( what are you taking currently?)to see if it helps. Say your quality of life is ruined. There is quite a bit you can do to help your self- see the files and read on associated conditions also the vits and minerals that can help too. Subject: Underactive thyroid Hi everyone. Im so glad ive found someone to talk to. No one seems to understand. I have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid for 18months now. I started of depressed , stressed out lack of energy , aching joints and feeling cold, Im back to the docs on tue and I want this sorted out im sick of feeling this way all the time. I want to go to the docs and not be fobbed off . Any ideas on what to say Sorry for the long boring post . Fiona xx ------------------------------------ TPA is not medically qualified.
