I don't remember having to fast before my surgery. If your

doctor only wants you to do liquids maybe you could try

some ensure or v8 juice and stuff like that.

Good Luck

The best fast is the Master Cleanser - you can read about it on

line. Just do a search. I've done it a few times and it's

wonderful. Cleans you out and after the frst day you are not

hungry. It's 8 oz. pure water, 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 2 T

maple syrup and a little (1/10 teaspoon or less) cayenne pepper.

Shake and drink 5-8 glasses a day. It's very good and really breaks

down the toxins in your body and mucus and does so much more.

My best to you,

Diane in Fl.

, congrats on your surgery date!!!I'm assuming by 3-day fast you mean before the surgery and not for the manometry (I've always been NPO after midnight for manometry.)

I would clarify if the doc wants a LIQUID or a CLEAR diet -- before my dilations I was liquid for 2 days before and clear liquid the day before and then NPO after midnight.

Liquid:

slim-fast/boost/ensure (basically identical products, buy whatever is on sale or whichever taste you prefer)

juices of any kind.... carrot juice, tomato juice, v-8, fruit juices.

thin oatmeal, grits, cream of wheat (verify w/ doc -- some accept these as liquids)

pureed anything (veggies, fruits, meats, baby foods -- verify w/ doc -- some accept these as liquids)

strained soups (lots of fat and protein in creamy soups)

milkshakes, ice cream, sorbet

anything from the Clear Liquid list below

Clear Liquid: You have to be able to see through it!

clear juice (pear, apple)

soda pop (7-up, sprite, ginger ale)

broth/bouillon/strained chicken noodle soup (more flavor than plain broth)

jello -- check w/ your doc, but most consider jello to be a liquid (even a clear liquid) b/c it melts at body temp. most hospitals have jello on your tray when you're on a clear liquid diet

gatorade and other sports drinks

(just be careful that you don't get a major overload of sugar, b/c it can cause diarrhea)

Hope this helps, lemme know if you have any questions!Deb

Okay, I've officially scheduled my surgery for Feb 18th. But first I'm getting the manometry done on Feb 10th...can't wait to get that over with. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I'm looking forward to getting the surgery overwith and getting some relief of the symptoms. But I'm also scared. I know and Genia are getting theirs soon too. So, please keep me posted on how you're doing! Hopefully this nightmare will be over soon for us and we will be able to eat a little easier. Obviously, we need to get some kind of nutrients to keep up our strength. I'm only 100 pounds as it is, if I lose any weight I'll be skin-and-bones!! in NYC

Thanks Deb. Yes, the 3 day fast is before the surgery. For the

manometry they said to not eat 3 hours before, even though I

explained to them that I was diagnosed with A. I'm planning on not

eating from the night before just in case. I'm sorry Debbi, but was

is " NPO. " :/

I'm pretty sure that the doctor said " clear liquids " but I will check

to be sure. I'm sure they'll send me a checklist of what I need to

do/not do since I need the prescription for the bloodwork anyway. I

can definitely deal with Jello, although I certainly don't need a

spell of diahrrea before surgery! :P

Re: Re: Surgery!

NPO is "hospital speak" for absolutely positively nothing to eat/drink at all, period.

I think it's the initials of the latin words for "nothing by mouth", but I'm not sure. If you ask someone what NPO actually stands for, they just say "nothing by mouth" -- DUH, that would be NBM! LOL

Oh, and the diarrhea shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't majorly over-do it on sugar. It's more of an issue w/ kids, but I think you would be more susceptible to it b/c you're already so teeny, plus you'll be in a bit of "starvation mode" then too.

My condolences to you. I'll keep trying to treat the cause and not the symptom.

I hope you don't develop new symptoms to " treat " . Cheers...........

Some people with gallstones gamble for gallbladder removal, in exchange of

enjoying any food that they wanted to it. There's a doctor here in New York

City, who had a gallstone, too, and opted for removal of her gall bladder.

After a year she has the same gallstone problems, now developed in her kidney.

In my case, I'm still enjoying my gall bladder after I cancelled my gall

bladder removal last May 23, 2006. But the reason I still have it, and had never

had a gallstone attack again, is because I've been careful of what to eat.

Generally, I've never abused eating oily foods anymore. I TOTALLY, yes, totally

stopped eating beef and pork meat. I drink a lot of water, and at least 4

glasses of pure apple juice in a day.

It's too late for witchyyybitch, since her (his) gall bladder is gone already.

My only advise, never abuse foods that had caused her (him) gallstone infection,

because it may recurr and will develop in other parts of her (his) system. It

happens to a doctor with more experiences in medications. How much more to

people, who never read more information first before believing in advise of

doctors.

I am extremely surprised that the doctor risked his license performing an

illegal surgery. Perhaps since there were no " witnesses " except medical

personnel present he felt comfortable.

I have had only one attack, March 12, 2006. Ended up in the hospital and was

advised to have surgery. I refused and said I was going to go home and do some

research. I've learned that lots of people who have an attack never have

another one. I, too, have limited meat and eggs (even though eggs are very good

for most people) from my diet and have had no more pain and I still have my GB.

I, too, feel so sorry for people who just opt for surgery because I know lots of

them have continuing problems. Yes, for some it helps. We are all different.

Is this supposed to be a good thing?! I can only imagine what you've

been eating since you had it out. Just because you are no longer in

pain, please don't jump off a cliff.

Evie

P.S. Still hanging on to mine, and pain-free, too!

Well, thank goodness ice cream doesn't bother me. That's got to be a major food

group.

Amber

There are only 3 items that cause me pain......dairy, (except raw or made from

raw), cooked eggs, and greasy meat, so yes, I miss my ice cream, my eggs over

easy, and of course, bacon, but, I did have them for many years, and so many

alternatives available .......I'm blessed.........
