Ferritin thoughts

Hi

A few weeks ago I posted about my 'male' ferritin level being 58.8,

and having a average temp of 36.7. I started some Spatone (double

dose) and have been taking it daily. I used to take it about 4pm, but

the last few days I decided to try it as early as possible, leaving at

least 4 hours after my thyroxine. So I took it about 10.30, and have

been noticing some good results. My afternoon temp, taken between 2

and 2.30, usually is 36.7, but I've been getting 36.8/36.9 the last

few days. Also I sometimes feel droopy about 3pm, partly due to having

bad sleeping with my hydro cortisone causing some insomnia. This is

only a recent thing, as I'd upped my hc to deal with the slump, but

this increase added to the insomnia!! However I sailed through the 3-4

pm period no problem the last few days.

So this suggests to me that the iron supplements increased my t4 - t3

conversion, raising my temps and energy levels, and implying that my

current ferritin levels are lower than my 'normal' and could use some

more iron.

Does this seem reasonable? If so, then I'm going to carry on with this

until the end of Feb, and reassess then.

Hi Rod,

It's great to hear that you've started to see positive results. I

think I'd monitor the ferritin levels if possible as it isn't good

to go too high but it sounds to me like you are getting there.

Hi Rod

It seems very reaosnable to me and as your new regime seems to be working, I would definitely carry on until end of February and see how things are then. I really do wish that doctors would look into such problems as low ferritin being a probable cause of their hypothyroid patients not doing well on thyroid hormone replacement. Getting your ferritin level to a good place makes such a difference to so many things.
