Of course the doctor recommended surgery. My attacks were not bad enough . . . . and I wanted to check out alternatives. Because I have been either pregnant or nursing (3 more babies) I've been limited as to what I could do - too hard to do flushes, to complicated to do herbs, etc. So, what seemed to help whenever I felt an attack come on I just took several swigs of straight lemon juice. I always got immediate results so I'm thinking my attacks were relatively mild. THEN this past Summer I had the big one. It occurred right after eating my 3rd Philadelphia Cheese Steak sandwich within days of each other. I ended up in the ER and got relief from morphine (I think) - nothing I did at home would bring any relief, I thought I was dying. The blood work did not reveal a real emergency so my gallbladder remained! Since then I've been seeing an alternative nutritionist. To initially recover from the attack she recommended that I stay away from animal products for a few days and mostly eat raw veggies, so I did. I also took Quercitin with Bromelain. I did a Castor Oil pack over my gallbladder as well every night (now I do it by-weekly). As I've been recovering I have been returning to have my body tested and my supplements adjusted (through muscle testing). I take a Chinese herb called Liver Soothe and take Super Enzyme and sometimes Cholocal when I eat, among some other varied supplements. My nutritionist seems to think that the problem is mostly a digestive problem due to the lack of enzymes. I have not had a problem since that one in August. If you think about it - doing a flush is only an alternative to surgery not necessarily a fix. Of course surgery is the drastic choice. However, is doing a flush really solving the problem? The answer lies in what caused the stones in the first place. Another thing to consider: what is actually triggering an attack? Many people have stones but do not experience any pain. Some have a fewer stones than others and have bad attacks. My guess is that if you don't make any other changes and only do flushes forever then you will still typically get some amount of stones every time. If changes are made to wear down the stones and eventually eliminate (or stop creating) them then you shouldn't have to flush them. If you are REALLY disciplined and can figure out what is really best for your body and stick with it then you can really reach optimum health all the way around! Unfortunately I am sleep deprived and stressed so it's difficult for me to really take the best care of myself. By the way, I really think stress can bring on attacks as well. So, there is probably a big chemical and hormonal factor to also consider. Currently I am doing the best I can with diet and supplements (and I know my diet is not so great - I have been taking some risks). I am working towards getting more sleep and of course, the exercise thing! I know in my heart it can be done. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Anyway, this is my story, hope it helps a bit!
