Guest guest
Hi all, I went to see the endo this morning. He told me that I was normal - the blood test results showed nothing that could indicate a thyroid problem. I asked about the 24 hr urine test which showed that my T3 was under range but he dismissed the test as not being accurate or relevant. He did not see how the test could show how much T3 was in the tissues. I have a feeling he did not know about thyroid urine tests or how to interpret them. I told him again about my muscle weakness, zero libido, loss of hair, low basal temperature (97.1) etc., He could give me no reason but suggested I get some HRT. I told him I was already using natural progesterone but he seemed not to hear. Anyway, the result was that he has discharged me. I am somewhat concerned that as my blood test results were normal and Dr P said I should start taking Cytomel - I don't want to make myself worse. I am so confused now - after seeing him I feel as though everything is in my mind and it is really just my age that is making me feel rough. Guest guest
Hi I would write to your Endocrinologist and ask him to explain to you ion writing the reason he is ignoring your 24 hour urine test and going by the NHS blood test, which ONLY shows the FT4 and FT3 in your blood. He must be made to give you a thorough explanation and ask him to point you in the direction of references to show that thyroid blood results are more accurate than 24 hour urine results. See what comes of that. Tell him that you intend to take this further if he is not willing to do this and ask him for a response within the next 10 days. It is obvious to me that he knows little about this test and is discharging you without finding out what is causing your problems. Dr P does not go by blood test results alone, he takes into consideration your symptoms, signs, your medical history etc and that is why he recommended Cytomel for you.
