Just came across these two studies and wonder if anyone can comment more on this???Jerry Brunetti also posted an article, http://www.westonaprice.org/farming/cobalt.htmlon Cobalt and the Soil in which he touches on the relationship of cobalt and iodine. However aren't higher cobalt levels in cancer considered a risk???Could it be that cobalt needs to be well balanced with iodine to keep it in line???Lynn[iodine, carbohydrate and protein metabolism in rats with cobalt deficiency] [Article in Russian] Marsakova NV, Esipenko BE. Experiments on male rats maintained at the diet with a low

amount of cobalt have revealed a decrease in values of iodine indices in organs and tissues except for the liver tissues where

a sharp increase in the inorganic iodine concentration as well as

disturbances of the protein and carbohydrate metabolism were observed.

Mathematical analysis has shown a high correlation of changes in the

carbohydrate and protein metabolism and concentration of protein-bound

iodine in blood. It has permitted

a conclusion on an indirect effect of the cobalt deficiency on the

metabolism processes as a result of changes in the concentration of

protein-bound iodine in blood and tissues. PMID: 1694504 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLI[iodine, carbohydrate and protein metabolism in rats with iodine, copper and cobalt deficiency] [Article in Russian] Marsakova NV, Esipenko BE. Insufficient

supply of white rats with I, Cu, Co for 2.5 months has induced

disturbances of iodine, carbohydrate and protein metabolism which are

reliably more significant than those in rats with deficiency of only

iodine in the ration. The correlation-regression analysis of

results from these observations shows cause-consequent relations of

changes in main links of iodine metabolism as well as changes in PCI

concentrations and indices of carbohydrate and protein metabolism with

deficiency of I, Cu and Co in the body. PMID: 2323445 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]
