Guest guest
Seems like you have every right to rant and you need to let off some steam. Please see if your Dr. will prescribe some antifungals for you, e.g. Nystatin, Diflucan, etc. If not, get some natural antifungals from a health food store: OregeMax (oregano oil capsules), Garlic capsules, Caprylic acid, olive leaf extract, or just drink some apple cider vinegar in water. According to what Doug Kaufmann has been researching (for 37 years) and reports from the Mayo Clinic and others, most health problems stem from fungus in the body. It certainly won't hurt to try this. You can get more info from his website: www.knowthecause.com. Amber As an aside, I have been researching different kinds of arthritis for a while, and it just occurred to me today that I might actually have rheumatoid arthritis. ... I'm going to go to the doctor soon to get a diagnosis so I will know better how to proceed.... The problem is that it is a lot of stress to move in that direction! I am divorced as of 2 weeks ago, and on my own with 2 kids- 5 and 6- whom I homeschool. Evie Maddox .
Guest guest
Hi Evie, Ranting is a good thing. If you are cold all the time, warming herbs and foods are really, really good for you. Going through a break up and trying to maintain while taking care of the kids is difficult at best. If there is any way for us to support you, your's is but to ask. Nutmeg is actually soft even though it looks hard. There are nutmeg graters that actually would be better termed " shavers " . they have a crank and a blade that shaves off a small amount with each pass. This is the type that I recommend. The type that looks like a washboard with a lot of holes is very wasteful and needs to be cleaned each time. Nutmeg has several potential uses. First, it is the most powerful blood pressure medicine you can lay your hands on. Second, it is again the most powerful somniferic for any kind of sleeping disorder. Third, it's main use in Ayurveda is as a digestive enhancer. It increases the absorption of nutrients ( great when needed but contra indicated in the case of something like " leaky gut " ). Care must always be exercised when using nutmeg. Start out very low (half teaspoon) and work your way up. The effects take a minimum of 4 hours and up to 12 to kick in. Therefore you take a dose one day and do not alter it until the next day in order to arrive at the proper amount. Capishe? The ayurveda way would be to decoct it in milk. Hot cocoa sounds good to me. RA is usually the immune system attacking joint tissue willy nilly. there is almost if not always a major stressor involved that is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Turmeric extract (curcumin... not cumin) is the premier anti inflammatory. All the best, let us know how we may help. -Dave ----- Original Message ----- From: Evie Maddox<mailto:evie@...> gallstones <mailto:gallstones > Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2008 3:34 PM Subject: Question for Dave re: nutmeg Hi Dave, On your suggestion, I ran out and got some whole nutmeg a while back and it is still sitting unused. Guest guest
Evie, Keep in mind that any anti-fungal drugs are really bad for the liver. So, Amber's recommdenation of Oil of Oregano and other natural things are a good alternative. Also, if you think it may be RA, there are studies of using NALTREXONE (Off-Label) low dose 3mg -- 5mg, it really helps the imune system. It is also being studied for MS, Lupus and many other things. Do a Google search for " Low Dose NALTREXONE " Good Luck, --- Amber <amber@...> wrote: > Seems like you have every right to rant and you need > to let off some steam. Guest guest
Thank you Dave! I have been making hot cocoa everyday with raw milk and organic Dagoba hot chocolate mix. It is yummy. Would I put the nutmeg in while I'm cooking it, or after? Also, could you find a picture of the shaver that you're talking about? I just googled it and saw so many different things, and so many different prices. I did see some glass ones that you put the nutmeg in- is that like what you mean? I saw some on eBay. I can't spend much time online as my son and I have the flu. I thought I was doing better yesterday and did 4 loads of laundry, and ended up with a 101 temp by bedtime. Guest guest
Grate or shave it in after cooking but while still hot. Keep in mind that it takes a long time to kick in so if the sleep problem is getting to sleep it needs to be taken in the 4pm range. Any kitchen store will have one. They are dirt cheap. You will recognize the shaver type because you load a nut into the grater and the cap will be spring loaded to keep pressure on the " nut " . Sunny, for those of you that want to use it for blood pressure, start out low and work up to desired effect. This may be very relaxing in higher quantities so you have to play around with it until you find the proper dose and still stay functional. Remember, do not continue to add on the same day. Only ajust dose 24 hours apart or more. If for sleep you take it at 8 by 10 there is still no effect so people take more and by 12 there is still no effect yet so they take more, and it starts to kick in around 2 but since the took so much they cannot make roll call in the morning when the alarm goes off. Death has been reported on as little as one whole nutmeg in Ayurveda but I have a client who takes the equivalent of 2 whole " nuts " a day just to keep his cardio from exploding with no deleterious effects. If it wasn't a common baking spice it would be illegal. My preferred way of administration by the way is ground and capped because it is much easier to dose and the capping protects the volatile oils from oxidation. Just as a side note, nutmegs closest relative is the avocado! It is the pit in the middle. Soft enough to be able to shave with a knife, it does not need to be grated. I grind pounds at a time easily. It is not as hard as it looks. Guest guest
Dave, the nutmeg seems to be working for the hypertension. I am taking some other natural things as well, and I suspect that going the natural route doesn't necessarily give the immediate effect of the Rx drugs, but I don't want the side effects of the prescriptions. Anyway, I wanted to ask you where you get your nutmeg. Do you order it off the internet? I live an hour and a half away from any Houston store that might carry the whole nut, so am hoping I can get some by ordering it. Thanks so much. Guest guest
Come now Liz. What kind of a statement is this? I have now gone through no less than 20 volumes with monographs on Theobroma cacao and 155 abstracts on PubMed with no reference to oxalic acid content at all. Traditional and present uses for cacao include kidney and heart tonic, diuretic, epithelial protection, and the lowering of blood pressure (in very large quantities it can raise blood pressure and cause problems. Drop that Godiva...). Everyone note that this pertains to the cocoa not to dairy, sugar or whatever else is added. The methyl zanthines (mainly theobromine) are dilatory to both the arterials and to the bronchials, in fact a large dose of cocoa powder can save your life in an asthma attack. More and more research is being done on the polyphenols present in cacao and the benefits of such. The fats are emollient and protective of the mucousal lining of the digestive tract and used medicinally for such. Linnaeus himself gave it it's Latin name which translates to " Food of the Gods " . A close relative from Brasil, theobroma grandiflorum (cupuassu) is also being studied for it's medicinal qualities and is predicted by some to be the new super fruit, drafting on the heals of such as acai', mangosteen and the rest. Guest guest
The other night my stomach was a little uneasy and I wondered if I should have my hot cocoa or not. I did have it, and was very surprised that my stomach calmed right down and it was actually very soothing. I use raw milk as well. So perhaps it wasn't all in my head! Also, I've had peppermint tea sitting in the cabinet for a month or so and finally tried it yesterday. It was SO yummy! Worked right away on my indigestion from eating something I shouldn't have. It was almost as if I were eating a Thin Mint. SO good. Evie The fats are emollient and protective of the mucousal lining of the digestive tract and used medicinally for such. A close relative from Brasil, theobroma grandiflorum (cupuassu) is also being studied for it's medicinal qualities and is predicted by some to be the new super fruit, drafting on the heals of such as acai', mangosteen and the rest. Guest guest
Let me add a note here also. If you will get the Raw Cacao powder for your hot chocolates you will love it. It is not as bitter as the Hersey cocoa is and you can sweeten it with the Agave nectar. I love to put nutmeg and cinnamon in my hot cocoa too. The raw cacao has all the nutrients left in it and you will get more from it. Guest guest
I'm looking around, trying to figure out whom you are assuming is using Hershey's cocoa. *I* personally deserve more credit than that, and probably most in this group as well. I'm cringing at the thought of using Hershey's cocoa. Eeeeewww. (She leaves the room, annoying those left wondering, " what's so bad about Hershey's? " ) Evie > > Let me add a note here also. Guest guest
Hi Sunny, I get my nutmeg from large wholesale sources. I have a full time practice, and dispensary for other health professionals so am in a bit of a different situation than most of those on this group. The really good thing that when talking about whole nutmeg, most is of medicinal quality. This is very different than with most herbs. Therefore you can be confident that if you are getting whole nut, even out of Safeway that it will do the job (even though you will be paying 5 to 10 times the price). Please by no means assume that nutmeg is a one shot wonder for blood pressure. There is always more to the picture. It will be different depending on the individual and situation. This is not meant as a over the counter treatment for high blood pressure. If you email me off group I can fill you in more. Always, in all ways, -Dave ----- Original Message ----- From: Sunny<mailto:sunny3@...> gallstones <mailto:gallstones > Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2008 4:52 PM Subject: Re: Question for Dave re: nutmeg Dave, the nutmeg seems to be working for the hypertension. Soft it is. Soft enough to be able to shave with a knife, it does not need to be grated. I grind pounds at a time easily. It is not as hard as it looks. About the consistency of Reggiano Parmesan, maybe a little harder. If you use a " grater it gums it up. -D ----- Original Message ----- From: Liz Sapareto<mailto:lizsapar@...<mailto:lizsapar@...>> To: gallstones <mailto:gallstones ><mailto:gallstones@\ <mailto:gallstones >> Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2008 10:19 AM Subject: Re: Question for Dave re: nutmeg nutmeg is not soft. you said " nutmeg is really soft, it just looks hard " - what kind of statement is this? contradictory Recent Activity a.. 7New Members<gallstones/members;_ylc=X3oDMTJkdWs3b205BF\ 9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzk4MzY4BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2MDgxNARzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2bWJycw\ RzdGltZQMxMjA0NzQxMTU3<gallstones/members;_ylc=X3o\ DMTJkdWs3b205BF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0BGdycElkAzk4MzY4BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2MDgxNARzZWMDdnR\ sBHNsawN2bWJycwRzdGltZQMxMjA0NzQxMTU3>> Visit Your Group <gallstones;_ylc=X3oDMTJjYjNzZjJjBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE0B\ GdycElkAzk4MzY4BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2MDgxNARzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2Z2hwBHN0aW1lAzEyMDQ3N\ DExNTc-<gallstones;_ylc=X3oDMTJjYjNzZjJjBF9TAzk3Mz\ U5NzE0BGdycElkAzk4MzY4BGdycHNwSWQDMTcwNTA2MDgxNARzZWMDdnRsBHNsawN2Z2hwBHN0aW1lAz\ EyMDQ3NDExNTc->> Meditation and Lovingkindness<http://us.ard./SIG=13rg2is1u/M=493064.12016231.12582634.\ 9706571/D=grphealth/S=1705060814:NC/Y=/EXP=1204748362/L=/B=lxONKULaX9A-/J=1\ 204741162186837/A=5191951/R=0/SIG=11iiaadso/*http://new./giftofl\ ovingkindness<http://us.ard./SIG=13rg2is1u/M=493064.12016231.12582634.9\ 706571/D=grphealth/S=1705060814:NC/Y=/EXP=1204748362/L=/B=lxONKULaX9A-/J=12\ 04741162186837/A=5191951/R=0/SIG=11iiaadso/*http://new./giftoflo\ vingkindness>> A Group to share and learn.
