Guest guest
I have been on the block and replace therapy for about 4 weeks and somehow it doesn't feel right. I was on 40mg of carbimazole and 100mg of Levothyroxine. The latter got lowered to 50mg about a week ago because I felt the 'cocktail' made me feel very emotional and basically as bad as I was before medication. But I still feel odd. I have a constant slight throatache and the feeling my neck is getting bigger and generally speaking I don't feel as good as I felt when I was on Carbimazole only. Could it be what I describe are the typical side effects of the block & replace therapy? i.e. you've got to feel worse before you feel better? Thanks for your feedback. Guest guest
I cannot for the life of me understand why a doctor would give you treatment for under active and overactive thyroid at the same time!! I have never heard of this 'block and replace' therapy but it sounds horrendous. I took carbimazole for a couple of weeks when I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and quickly stopped it when I realised that I was getting worse, - mainly because although I had explained to my doctor I did not get on well with Maize in any form, he prescribed a tablet that had maize as an active ingredient! Guest guest
Hi yes I have been diagnosed with Graves and I am on the Block and Replace. Since my email I have seen the consultant who explained to me the idea behind it. She's increased the Levothyroxine to 75mg. I still don't feel great. rather sleepy and down but I guess I just have to be patient and see. > > > > I have been on the block and replace therapy for about 4 weeks and > > somehow it doesn't feel right. Guest guest
Hi Glynis, How were treated if you didnt' get the carbimazole? Block & Replace seemed to be a method by which, instead of controlling the thyroid by getting the right amount of carbimazole, it is controlled by stopping it altogether with the carbimazole and then replacing it with Levothyroxine. I do find it very odd as well but apparently it is a quicker and easier way to control the thyroid. All the best. > > > I cannot for the life of me understand why a doctor would give you > treatment for under active and overactive thyroid at the same time!!
