Hi everyone,

I've been suspecting that I'm at least slightly hypothyroid for some

time, and now that the symptoms seem to be getting worse (long

list!), thought I'd get some blood tests done to see whether anything

had changed.

My TSH result about 6 weeks ago was 4.14. On previous occasions (a

couple of years back) they have also been between 4 and 5. According

to my local GP practice, this is " normal " (i.e. within the 0.5 to 5

range) and " no action is required " .

I'm going to see my GP tomorrow to discuss this. I'm afraid that she

will just say it's all related to the depression (I'm on a low dose

of fluoxetine), and that the TSH levels aren't enough to warrant any

drugs, especially as it might cause my thyroid " to pack up

altogether " which is what I was told a few years ago when I requested

looking at treatment.

What would you recommend I ask for in terms of tests to determine

whether I have a hypothyroid condition which is clinically

treatable? I understand that T4 tests (and possibly T3) could be

useful?

Thank you for any hints or tips that might help me handle this better.

-Jo
