Guest guest
My sister & I are going on a cruise departing from & returning to Boston. We want to rent scooters for use on the ship. We are researching on the Internet but would also appreciate hearing from anyone with actual experience, good and bad. Recommendations, tips, pitfalls? Thanks, Alice
Guest guest
Jim Check with the cruise line, they may have some type of scooter or chair you can use while on board. Elaine...
Guest guest
Jim, I spent 11 days in Alaska August 2003. I have CMT and wear braces and walk with a cane. I was 57 years old at the time. My wife and I bought a railroad/cruise combo and had a terrific time Alaska is stunningly beautiful and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. If you can walk some, a scooter is not required. Everyone was quite accommodating. Tourism is their life-blood and they cater to tourists. I noticed several senior groups and there were many walkers, canes, etc. The next time we go, we plan to fly to Anchorage, rent a car, and design our own itinerary. All the short day-cruises, tours of Denali, flights over Mt. McKinley (Denali), etc. are available to anyone, any time. On a couple of occasions I asked to board early (on a day cruise) so I would not have to stand for a long period, which is painful for me, and they seemed glad to do it. I had to pass up a long walk to one of the glaciers and a nature hike over rugged terrain, but did not feel like I missed much. My thought is that the scooter would be much more trouble than it's worth unless it is an absolute necessity. And, by the way, I have never had much trouble getting though security at the airport. Have fun in Alaska--I know you will. Tom
