Guest guest
Hi- your story is almost identical to one posted only a few weeks ago, and is a common problem. We just can never safely eat more Than one to 1.5 cups of food, whether or not the band tries to help. We emphasize this often. If we CAN eat more, something is wrong and we must be seen. This is another reason we also need yearly fluoros- they pick up problems like this quitr often and early enough that permanent damage is not done. Your doc's treatment is correct. After a few months you might be able to start again with slow and gradual fills but you won't be able to have a big fill. You will need to take responsibility yourself for stopping eating to a much larger degree. The damaged esophagus just never heals completely and will not be able to give the same soft stop feeling, so you will have to stop yourself at one cup. While you are braking, start again to get in the band life with serious daily exercise, therapy to examine your eating issues, and all the other needed things- just as needed before. See the " dilation- what is a dilation? " document in the files. Good luck! You can do it! Sandy Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Dilated Esphegeous Hello Group I have not posted in a while but always read what going on. I know I butcher the spelling in the subject. So I have the lap-band since 9/2004 here in NY. Started at 298 went all the way to 155 but wasn't right for me so stayed happily stable at 170-175 @ 5'4. My last fill was about 2 yrs ago. Over the last 3 months I have been able to tolerate more food and started gaining weight went up to now 183. I figure I just needed a fill. Did a barium sallow test and it took forever to pass through the band.....I was STUCK after my Dr review my study he said my Esphegeous (sorry still can't spell it) was dilated and food was backing up allowing me to eat more. It kinda made sense because now and then I would have to vomit because I was so uncomfortable. The only fix is to do a total unfill except maybe .5cc for 2-3 month so my Esphegeous can get back to normal and then I can slowly start getting filled. Needless to say I am mortify. I have use the band as a tool for almost 7 yrs how was I going to manage without? In the interim I would be on phenamine appetite surrpressor. Has anyone gone through this? Does this happen often with the band after years? Can any body offer any insight? Thanks for reading. Cami.
Guest guest
That last paragraph was meant to say " while you are HEALING... " . Hard to reply with a Smartphone!
