Guest guest
Hi I think you should now write a letter to your GP and say that you wish to have a referral to an endocrinologist - somebody who knows about thyroid disease - as your GP is just a GP and is not a specialist in any particular disease. She should not be taking away your L-thyroxine - this is a medication that you need to take for life, and is not something you can tell a patient to take and then to stop taking it. If she truly felt you were going hyperthyroid, then she should have suggested that you lower your dose by 25 mcgs - but as you are obviously still suffering all the symptoms of hypothyroidism, she should be guided by a specialist. List your symptoms and signs (I know this will be a chore and I wish I could come over and do it for you). If you have a thermometer, take your basal temperature before getting out of bed for 3 to 4 days. Normal temperature is around 98.4 degrees F. If yours is 97.8 or less (and I should imagine it will be very much lower) this indicates that you have too low a metabolism. Your GP should NOT have taken your blood a couple of hours after you had taken your thyroxine, and she should test you again and you can ask her to do this with immediate effect to see what is happening to you right now. If she refuses, you should report her to the Practice Manager and if this is still not done, report this matter to your local Primary Care Trust. Tell your GP that you are very concerned that her leaving you without the thyroid hormone replacement, the dangerous consequences of this could include: serious mental problems, seizures, heart disease, diabetes including misdiagnosis and complications, constipation resulting in colon cancer, all female problems (due to high amounts of dangerous forms of oestrogen), including: tumours, fibroids, ovarian cysts, PMS, endometriosis, breast cancer, miscarriage, heavy periods and cramps, bladder problems leading to infections, and others.... You will have to lay it on thick. Write also that you wish your letter to be placed in your medical records. That will hopefully make her think twice. I have passed your message by FAX to Dr Peatfield in the hope that he is around, and that he might be able to suggest something else, but he may well say to get some Nutri Adrenal Extra (from www.tpa-uk.org.uk ) to help boost your adrenals, which must definitely be feeling the strain, and probably to try Nutri Thyroid to boost your thyroid too. I will write as soon as I hear from him, but at the moment, the FAX is sitting there on my machine, so I expect his line is very busy. I know it is hard, but do try to keep your chin up. I am sure others will come with other suggestions. If possible, I would ask somebody to take your letter to your surgery by hand, and if you are called in to see your GP - take somebody supportive of your situation with you. luv - Sheila I saw a doc this morning...a woman...as my doc is still on holiday. I had to go because once again I am feeling extremely fatigued, am sleeping more than awake, my face and eyelids are puffy, I am constipated, have tingling in fingers and toes and yesterday my voice disappeared again..it is very hoarse...and I have put 2lb on since last week - I hadn't lost any but my weight had stayed constant while taking Levo. I asked the doc if I could even take a reduced dose of Levo as the symptoms are returning but despite my suggestions that it may have been a false reading because I had taken Levo an hour or so before blood was drawn there was no persuading her to even allow a reduced dose. As far as she is concerned I am not hypo because of my test results but when I asked what she did think it was she said she couldn't be expected to say when so many before have failed to diagnose. Her input? I have to see a psychiatrist, not take any Levo and see my own doctor on his return from holiday...but he will just toe the party line too and only refer to the labs. When I said I could see myself back in hospital again unable to even get out of bed, she said that was maybe what I needed! Very encouraging. So now I am back to square one. I understand the concern with the jump in my Free T4 and drop in TSH, but I did not have any hyper symptoms. I felt better that I had in years....though I did have joint pain which was more pronounced than it had ever been before. My previous results without any LevoIf anyone can help me decide what to do next I'd be grateful for any input. No virus found in this incoming message.
