Guest guest
Why is thyroxine the default treatment for hypothyroidism instead of Armour? Why do all the studies aim to prove that Armour has an advantage over thyroxine (with apparently negative results)? Surely Armour should be the assumed default drug of choice simply on the grounds of it being physiologicaly more similar to that of the thyroid output (all the secreted hormones as opposed to just one), and it should be used for treatment unless the studies prove that THYROXINE has the advantage? If everything is equal for thyroxine and Armour: studies show that thyroxine gives no more benefit for quality of life, improved cognitive ability etc. than Armour. The safety and consistency are the same. bla bla bla. Then why is it that thyroxine should REMAIN the treatment of choice? Simply because it was the first kid on the block? Or are there advantages thyroxine has that Armour doesn't (I don't think money/cost should really be counted as who can put a price on peoples health?) In actual fact, the fact that patients prefer physiological doses of Armour should sway the argument to the side of Armour, surely?
