Guest guest
Hi chan, TFT thyroid function test. TSH thyroid stimulating hormone. TSH is a TFT which also included free t4 and free T3 amongst others less commonly used. Subject: TFT TSH What is the difference Hi all I emailed last week saying my Dr who prescribes me Armour is leaving the surgery. I emailed him asking him to ask if any of the other Drs are willing to carry on prescribing me Armour and he has replied back saying one of he Dr's will as long as my TFT's are ok! What is the difference between TFT and TSH as I know Armour suppresses the TSH. Many Thanks Chan for Good helps you make a difference
Guest guest
HI Chan TFT means Thyroid Function Tests and TSH means Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. When you are taking natural thyroid extract (Armour) you are taking ALL the thyroid hormones your body requires, so your pituitary has no need to send signals to your thyroid telling it to start pumping out more hormones. This means your TSH will be very suppressed – probably off the bottom of the scale. Your Free T4 and Free T3 will most likely also be very high, but this is perfectly NORMAL when taking natural thyroid extract. Because of this, your new doctor may believe you are taking too much and going hyper and try to cut down your dose. To prevent this, you should NOT take your Armour for at least 24 hours (longer if necessary) before having your blood drawn for a TFT. Most sensible doctors are aware that people should not take their thyroid hormone replacement for at least 24 hours before their test and should tell their patients this – even Professor W mentioned that you should not take thyroid hormone replacement for at least 24 hours before getting your blood drawn, in a recent court case. There is a study showing that TFT’s are of not of value if you are taking thyroid hormone replacement – the NHS could save itself a lot of money if they went by how a patient actually feels, rather than concentrating on tests that are useless. “Are biochemical tests of thyroid function of any value in monitoring patients receiving thyroxine replacement?†W D FRASER, E M BIGGART, D ST J O'REILLY, H W GRAY, J H McKILLOP, J A THOMSON Luv - Sheila TFT TSH What is the difference Hi all I emailed last week saying my Dr who prescribes me Armour is leaving the surgery.
