Guest guest
Jim, I am a toe walker too, my type of CMT is unknown except my last EMG showed 'normal' readings which can be characteristic of Type 2. Anyway, wondered if you have ever had surgery on your feet? As a kid I did, tendons moved, which curtailed the 'foot roll' part. 8-10 years ago I think I was introduced to inshoe orthotics, coupled with New Balance shoes. Walking with these forces me to put my heel down first. Have you ever done physical therapy for toe walkers? I don't think you're wierd - just one of US! Anyone else a toe walker? If so, may I ask if you wear AFOs, or orthotics, what type of shoes and how your gait us affected? ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Gretchen, I have just returned from Dr. Shy's clinic in Detroit, they have prescribed AFOs, articulated, because I have such a tendency to roll my foot. I work on my feet a lot, outside, and in the dark, I think they will be a welcome change over what I've been putting up with. While I don't have foot drop I tend to walk on my toes to prevent the roll. I wear New Balance shoes exclusively as my feet are extremely wide. (EEEE to EEEEEE in some styles) If you haven't guessed my feet aren't just flat, they are FLAT, and toed out like a duck. Am told that an in shoe device may be needed in addition to the braces. I have tried the hightop stuff with little success, just twist the soles off the uppers. Thanks Gretchen Jim Nash in West Central Ohio
